Professional services company has a full-time opening for a Historic Preservation Specialist. Areas of expertise include: History, Architectural History, Preservation, and Historic Architecture. Candidates must have experience with National Register documentation, survey and inventory projects, review and compliance documentation (National Environmental Policy Act and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act), compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards, and preservation planning. Minimum of 5 years of Historic Preservation and 3 years of providing technical reviews of architectural documents (i.e. reviewing plans and specifications for the work proposed for historic buildings) is required. Knowledge and experience with the federal grant application requirements, basic knowledge of the various laws, regulations, rules, policies, procedures, and methods governing the administration of Federal grants, cooperative agreement, and awards is preferred.
Duties will include the following:
- Assisting with the review of grant applications, reports, draft and final projects;
- Supporting the development and delivery of training, technical assistance, oversight, expertise, and consultation to program officials, awardees, review panels, applicants, recipients, and sub-recipients as needed regarding Historic Preservation activities;
- Supporting the review and evaluation of adequacy of Historic Preservation policies and procedures;
- Assisting with information sharing and coordination between the Government and awardee organizations;
- Participating in determinations of application eligibility for Historic Preservation project using established eligibility criteria, such as competitive rating factors;
- Assisting with preservation project/program evaluation, including monitoring and assessing awardee performance, and establishing performance measures;
- Participating in monitoring, assessing, and ensuring awardee compliance with all applicable preservation laws and guidelines;
- Communicating with external customers, recipients, and awardee community to clarify, interpret, and resolve issues related to Historic Preservation practices;
- Recommending or supporting the initiation of appropriate action to protect Government interests;
- Documenting compliance with all Historic Preservation regulatory and legal requirements.

Must be able to provide accurate reviews of, or guidance regarding, National Register documentation, survey and inventory projects, review and compliance documentation (National Environmental Policy Act and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act), compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards, and preservation planning.
The work requires knowledge of Historic Preservation which encompasses various Federal laws, Department of Interior and National Park Service programs and guidelines, treatments and planning tools for cultural resource management including:
- 54 USC 301 et seq (commonly referred to as the National Historic Preservation Act);
- Secretary of Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Archeology and Historic Preservation ;
- National Register of Historic Places ;
- Historic Preservation Fund ;
- Knowledge of American history and architecture;
- Knowledge of the preservation of buildings, sites, objects, districts and structures, and landscapes;
- Knowledge of structural engineering as it relates to historic buildings;
- Roles of State, Tribal, local government, and nonprofit preservation partners.
