The engineer will be responsible for implementation of hardware subsystems in support of primary research and instrument development.
This includes assisting with new instrument development and instrument testing using specialized equipment and High Voltage procedures. These duties are performed under minimal supervision and direction from experienced engineers however High Voltage subject matter expert mentorship will be provided.Responsibilities** High voltage electrical design, instrument layout, and interface design* Instrument testing, including use of specialized equipment, and qualification* Support of proposal development especially in space systems* Design for sensors and equipment that operates in extreme environments of temperature, vacuum, radiation, and must survive the harsh vibration and shock of the spacecraft launch environmentRequired Qualifications** BS in electrical engineering or relevant areas* Familiarity with spacecraft and instrument electrical design* Familiarity with the space environment including laboratory environmental testing & qualification* Work as part of a team of faculty, research scientists, engineers, and technicians* Funding source requires US citizenship or permanent residency to work with export-controlled materialDesired Qualifications** MS or other advanced degree in engineering, physics, or mathematics* 5 years electrical engineering experience* Experience in industry or student projects designing systems and equipment for application in space environments, especially with consideration to space environment High Voltage design* Experience in industry or student projects with space system hardwareUnderfill StatementThis position may be underfilled at the intermediate level depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
