RESOURCE TEACHER - ST. ANDRE PROGRAM
Notre Dame College Prep, a Catholic, all-boys High School in Niles, Illinois, is seeking a well-qualified Resource Teacher for our St. Andre Program. The Principal appoints the Resource Teacher, who serves under the direct supervision of the Director of the Saint Andre Center. The Resource Teacher is responsible for supporting student growth by providing individual and group tutoring, academic intervention strategies, student learning, and student organizing.
EXPECTATIONS:
- 7:30 am - 3:30 pm – 10 months per year, other hours as needed to fulfill accountabilities
- All staff members support supervision of students as needed
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Specific accountabilities shall include, but not be limited to:
- Knowledge of the mission and philosophy of Notre Dame College Prep and support in incorporating and communicating its vision.
- Assist students in acquiring independent study habits.
- Reinforce the subject matter taught in the classroom.
- Maintain the standards of discipline determined by the Director of the Saint Andre Scholar Program.
- Carry out the daily class management duties delegated by the Director of the Saint Andre Program.
- Work with teachers and parents of Saint Andre Scholar students regarding their progress and possible academic strategies.
- Initiate contact with and tutor students individually and in groups in the Saint Andre Center on content and skill development, supporting the work of classroom teachers.
- Work with students to prepare before quizzes, tests, and projects, giving them opportunities to demonstrate their progress.
- Ensure students are well organized and prepared, providing assistance and executive functioning development when necessary.
- Develop understanding in a wide range of content areas to support student learning and progress in these areas.
- Propose academic and organizational strategies for individual students.
- Communicate with teachers regarding student weaknesses and deficiencies.
- Assist with student organization of supplies and materials.
- Reference and update the long-range planning board.
- Take attendance.
- Proctor exams for students with accommodations.
- Continue professional self-development.
- Other duties as assigned.
Conditions of Employment:
Must be fingerprinted and complete all Archdiocese of Chicago youth protection criteria and expectations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bachelor degree, Learning Behavioral Specialist I or II endorsement from the State of Illinois or equivalent certification from another state, excellent communication skills, an energetic and outgoing personality, strong administrative/organizational skills, the ability to work collaboratively and familiarity with the Google for Education Suite and basic computing are essential.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Master's degree in counseling or counseling-related fields, secondary education experience and Catholic school experience are preferred.
Physical Working Conditions:
Must be able to lift lightweight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average-weight objects (10 to 20 pounds). Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
