Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

Ephraim McDowell Health’s (EMH) Healthcare Educational Learning Program (HELP) participant will be considered an EMH Associate and will be responsible for attending all classroom instruction, labs and clinical learning experiences required of his/her clinical degree or certificate program.  Associate will work a minimum of twelve hours per week in his/her sponsoring department and will be paid up to 24 hours per week for attendance in the classroom, lab and/or required clinical experience.  Associate must be enrolled in the degree or certificate program and meet the minimum requirements of the position available in the sponsoring department. For example students enrolled in a nursing degree program may work as patient care techs or unit extender while attending school. Individual will exhibit the F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service and Trust).

Availability of positions and sponsoring departments are limited and may vary from semester to semester.

WORKING CONDITIONS, HAZARDS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Attends class and works in a well-lighted, ventilated and air conditioned area. When working in the clinical setting, may be exposed to unpleasant odors, sights, and sounds. May require long periods of sitting in class, moving around department(s), and moving or positioning light to heavy items. Risks exposure to disease, infection and physical strain, and assault. Risks exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, radiation and anti-neoplastic agents. Must be able to move or position 50 lbs. independently when working in the clinical department. Hours may vary; some weekends and overtime may be required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR EQUIVALENTS:

Education: High school diploma or GED required.  Voluntary enrollment in an acceptable clinical degree/certificate program as determined by EMH. Associate is responsible for completing the FAFSA application, school enrollment, and scheduling required classes, etc. through their school.
