JPW Structural Contracting located at our Syracuse, NY Structural Steel Fabrication Facility is currently seeking to add a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join their team! Immediate opening available! The Heavy Equipment Mechanic performs routine maintenance and other mechanical duties set forth by the Shop Foreman, all while maintaining a safe working environment and staying within quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment; maintain service records.
• Examine parts for damage or excessive wear; repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
• Operate and inspect equipment to diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs.
• Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
• Adjust, maintain, and repair or replace subassemblies, such as transmissions and crawler heads, using hand tools, jacks, and cranes.
• Assemble gear systems and align frames and gears.
• Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumaic equipment.
• Fabricate needed parts or items from sheet metal.
• Weld or solder broken parts and structural members.
• Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.
• Direct workers who are assembling or disassembling equipment or cleaning parts.
• Dismantle and reassemble Heavy Equipment using hoists and hand tools.

Qualifications
Skill Requirements

• Must possess and maintain CDL "B" License minimum
• Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Use engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices, micrometers and gauges
• Use electric or gas welders and soldering tools.
• Minimum of 5 years practical experience in the repair and maintenance of Heavy Equipment and machines.
• Inspection Certification for Heavy Truck / Manlift preferred.
• OSHA 10

Physical Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test and be subject to random testing during course of employment.
• Possess the coordination, physical strength, and agility to complete required tasks within the allotted time frame.
• Able to quickly and repeatedly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with body, arms and/or legs without restriction.
• Acceptable visual acuity, either corrected or uncorrected.
