Summary: Under the guidance of the building Principal, the Director of Student Services, and the Certified School Nurse, District 29 is seeking a dynamic and flexible individual to work collaboratively in the role of Health Services Instructional Aide for the 24-25 school year.
Health Services Responsibilities:
- Under the supervision of the school nurse and other certified staff, perform specialized physical health care procedures including but not limited to monitoring the administration of medication for student(s) and administering emergency care as needed.
- Assist in lifting, moving and positioning student(s) as necessary to render various forms of personal care which may include but are not limited to feeding, dressing, grooming, toileting, and specialized health care procedures.
- Maintain current training and knowledge of skills and techniques related to health and positioning needs, augmentative communication, etc., as directed by the Director of Student Services.
- Inform appropriate personnel on physical and health related progress and data.
- Accompany and assist student(s) to and from activities on and off campus.
- Organize health/physical positioning materials and equipment for daily use.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records in accordance with District and legal requirements.
- Participate in IEP meetings as requested.
- Under the direction of certified staff, maintain communication with parents related to health needs.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
Instructional Responsibilities:
- Under the supervision of the certified teacher, work with individual or small groups of students to reinforce academic, social-emotional, and functional skills initially introduced by the teacher and/or related services professionals.
- Provide instructional support as directed by the certified teacher, including modifying instructional materials, distributing and collecting materials, checking assignments, supervising testing, and guiding intervention programs assigned by the teacher.
- Assist with the supervision of student(s), including during arrival and departure of students, in-school transitions, emergency drills, assemblies, lunchtime/recess, etc.
- Support established classroom and behavior management procedures in a preventative and proactive manner.
- Assist in the implementation of the IEP as directed.
- Regularly meet with certified teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs.
- Participate in school/district meetings and in-service training programs as assigned.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Must hold a valid Illinois Educator License with Stipulations Endorsed as a Paraprofessional Educator, a valid Illinois Educator License, or a Substitute License.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all staff, students and the public.
- Ability to operate and effectively utilize technology equipment related to the position.
- Demonstrate proficient use of the English language in written and oral forms.
- Assists in establishing and maintaining a clean, safe, and pleasant learning environment.
- Establish a positive and supportive relationship with the student(s) which encourages independent functioning rather than dependency.
