SUMMARY:
This position is a fulltime Exempt (salary) position, providing professional services to support two divisions in the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); The Office on Smoking and Health (OSH) and the Division of Oral Health (DOH).
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
The contractor shall support and conduct activities in:
Organizational Health Support
- Provide subject matter expertise to the OSH Director and Deputy Director on efforts that will improve organizational health.
- Provide up to five trainings (division wide) focused on improving organizational health, topics will be determined by OSH Leadership.
- Draft documents that focus on promoting OSH accomplishments and/or improvements in organizational health and outlines suggested strategies for implementation.
- Plan and coordinate the logistics for wellness events and activities. This includes preparing agendas, inviting attendees, secure CDC meeting space, provide virtual platform options for remote attendees, coordinate all audio visual and resolve coordination issues for attendees.
- Assess, coordinate, and track organizational improvement efforts for the OSH Director and/or Deputy Director. This includes collaborating with OD Liaison, OSH's Connection Team and Wellness
Workgroup.
- Document and track what takes place during meetings with written minutes, action steps and lists of deliverables for each project and distribute the minutes to participants and save the minutes to a
designated OSH share drive or SharePoint site.
- Track project activities, record status updates, share milestone updates, and work to resolve project timeline and resource deficiencies and risks.
Communication Support
The contractor shall:
- Review and analyze results and develop an action plan in collaboration with the OSH Deputy Director
and Connections Team for OSH's Employee Viewpoint Survey (EVS). This includes a division-wide action plan and branch/unit action plans. Action plan should include recommendations on how to improve results which may include identifying and administering additional survey instruments (OSH EVS) to identify root causes and align with trainings (division wide) focused on improving organizational health as appropriate.
- Draft a communication plan for pre- and post-EVS and action plan.
- Draft communication documents in various print and digital formats including email announcements, briefing materials, wellness events, PowerPoint presentations and talking points for the OSH All Hands meeting, OSH Director Town Hall and Fireside Chat meetings, and other meetings focused on improving organizational health.
- Provide proofreading services to check for a logical flow of the information, grammatical errors, and miss-spelling and recommend changes. Proofreading services shall also include reviewing documents against each other for consistency. The contractor shall review drafts for accuracy and ensure information provided is correctly cited, sourced.
Assess Communication Needs and Provide Recommendations
The contractor shall assess communication and information needs of various internal audiences related to enterprise communication and organizational improvement. These audiences might include OSH staff
members, OSH's Connections Team, the Branch Deputies, Branch Chiefs, or senior leaders. The contractor shall provide written recommendations on channels, messages, format, tone, and how to tailor messages and eds and drive them to action.
Position Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to work independently
- Experience ensuring Section 508 compliance on deliverables
- Knowledge of health communication and marketing principles
- Experience using plain language and ability to use CDC's Clear Communication Index tool
- Expertise writing health content for a variety of audiences to be distributed via print and digital methods
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and possess critical thinking skills
- Ability to collaborate
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Master's degree in public health, communications, or health-related field plus 2 years of experience or a bachelor's degree plus 6 years of experience in communications/marketing
