The Health Communication Specialist will work on a team providing communication support to CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/index.htm). As part of the content development team, the Health Communication Specialist will use an array of skills to develop communication products and tools; coordinating, reviewing and editing content; and using Plain Language principles to translate complex information into accessible and easy-to-understand content.
Responsibilities include:
•Proofread, edit and improve Health Communication content for NCHS website and digital communication channels
•Collaborate with senior Communication Specialists, subject matter experts, and graphic designers to revise content; edit and adapt existing content; and create new content for NCHS website to support organization and promotion of data and features
•Attend internal NCHS meetings to stay abreast of latest Clean Slate developments
•Help develop content for NCHS social media channels
Requirements:
•Understanding and practical experience in best practices writing for the web
•Knowledge of and experience working in public health or health-related field
•Training or experience in plain language and clear communications
•Proven experience as communications specialist
•Experience in copywriting and editing
•Excellent communication (oral and written)
•Outstanding organizational and planning abilities
•Proficient command of English
•BS degree in public health/related field OR 3+ years of experience
Experience supporting communication projects for US Government clients and past experience working on communication projects for CDC a major plus but not required.
