Job Summary
The Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) specialist, while reporting to the System Safety Manager will implement and operate the HSE Management System. Ensures compliance with all applicable HSE local, state and federal laws, current policies, procedures while utilizing industry established best practices. The position will require interaction with senior management, travel between campuses to support facility-based safety coaches and Safety committees to implement to reduce injuries/illness and environmental risk.Job Description
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree in Safety, Engineering or Health and Safety related field, preferred.
Licenses/Certifications: Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification required or within one year of employment.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
- Five (5) years' experience in a large organization, developing and implementing safety programs and policies.
- Background and familiarity in interpreting and applying HSE regulations to ensure compliance and incident recurrence.
- Self-motivated with experience in HSE management system, program development and implementation in large organizations.
- Demonstrate a high level of organizational and planning skills.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects independently to achieve a common objective.
- Possess excellent managerial skills, skilled in motivation and team development.
- Possess superior verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt style and tone according to situation and audience.
- Mastery of Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Implements System Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies and procedures.
- Travels between locations and works with hospital safety coaches and Safety committees to promote and provide expertise and in the development and presentation of HSE training materials; maintains records as necessary
- Performs or assists with incident investigations as needed; maintains complete and accurate records required, prepares various reports, including charts and graphs, to determine trends and needs
- Monitors regulatory entities order to identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce process risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices.
- Coordinates and conducts HSE assessments, and program evaluations to determine the presence of workplace hazards and performing ergonomic evaluations; report and make recommendations to mitigate risk.
- Ensures OSHA record keeping of regulatory entities filings;
- Serves as a change agent who can identify barriers and lead corrective action while sustaining current performance and building future success.
- Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
