Job description

As a Head of Business Development at JM Search, you are responsible for working closely with the firm's leadership team to build out and evolve the firm's overall approach to Business Development. This will include helping coordinate Business Development efforts across the firm, and you will assume accountability for putting new policies, processes and procedures in place to help streamline and increase Business Development effectiveness and facilitate significant revenue growth. Requirements
Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a repetitive, scalable and predictable Business Development infrastructure engine to support continued growth of firm's annual revenue.
  • Assess existing processes and infrastructure relative to existing business and 5-year growth plan to determine gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Identify relevant internal and external best practices.
  • Develop requisite tools, templates, processes and policies in support of best practices.
  • In concert with IT, identify, select and rollout appropriate systems (e.g., CRM system).
  • Build a winning account management strategy and program to significantly increase share of wallet within top 15-20 Partner owned accounts.
  • Assess and document current account management strategies deployed across the firm.
  • Design an improved approach to account management, inclusive of new tools & processes.
  • Lead socialization and buy in of existing account owners for revised approach.
  • Facilitate the ongoing planning and introduction of additional JM resources to broader share of wallet.
  • Build, deploy and manage a holistic set of performance measures and metrics, including the associate reporting and analytics (not only for key accounts but overall efforts).
  • Design and implement training and development programs customized to multiple constituencies within JM Search.
  • Develop and implement a training curriculum to grow the selling muscle for leaders in firm with selling responsibilities (e.g., Partner and Principals).
  • Develop and implement a training curriculum to build initial muscle for earlier stage recruiters with future selling responsibilities (e.g., VPs).
  • In concert with Partners/Practice Leaders, support customized development of BD Associates & Managers assigned to individual practices.
  • External relationship development in concert with marketing organization, coordinate external marketing and BD efforts not related to purchasers of JM Services (e.g., tradeshows, speaking events).
  • Act as a presence at key events/shows in coordination with Partners.
  • Build/manage network with other service providers (e.g., consultants, international recruiting partners, assessment organizations, etc.) to develop mutually beneficial reference relationships.

Qualifications & Experience
  • 7-10 years in Business Development with a strong demonstrated foundation in Business Development operations in a professional services or consulting organization.
  • Proven track record of building an infrastructure (people, process, and technology) for a growing professional services firm.
  • Experience in businesses selling multiple service offerings to private equity.
  • Deep process expertise and passion.
  • Effective in dealing with and navigating a Partner led selling model.

Personal Characteristics
  • Bachelor's or relevant graduate degrees, MBA preferred.
  • Strong leadership and leader/manager skills.
  • High EQ/situational leadership - ability to navigate strong differences of opinions while driving significant change management within partnership group.
  • Collaborative approach with existing team and sensitivity around current practices.
  • Preference for data driven results, strategic thinker and highly organized.
  • Personal effectiveness to establish credibility with a wide range of stakeholders: confidence, presence, passion/energy, personal involvement, relates to all levels, adaptability, resilience, and courage, and is a clear communicator.
  • Good change management understanding/experience, including stakeholder management, and excellent engagement skills.
