Harrisburg Branch Manager

AWK Consulting Engineers, Inc. is seeking an experienced geotechnical, civil, structural, or environmental engineer as Branch Manager for its Harrisburg, PA office. This is a full-time position that requires managing geologists, geotechnical engineers, environmental scientists, surveyors, and technicians. The work includes federal, state, and local projects as well as private clients. The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will include:

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage geotechnical and geological analyses, manage staff and supporting sub-consultants, conduct research, review investigation results, and develop recommendations.
• Manage geotechnical and environmental field investigations.
• Interact with clients, agencies, and the public.
• Make decisions about significant procedures and function as a technical specialist and/or project manager.
• Interact with support staff including CADD technicians, surveyors, and clerical staff.
• Develop and manage field work for geotechnical and environmental studies in accordance with the regulations of various public agencies, and private clients’ requirements.
• Critically review testing results, recommendations, and other documents detailing investigation findings.
• Manage budgets; write and edit reports and proposals.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering or environmental studies required. MS preferred.

EXPERIENCE AND CRITERIA

• Minimum of 10 years of experience managing personnel, financial information, clients, and engineering or environmental projects.
• Must have strong interpersonal and leadership skills, public involvement skills, spoken communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse interest groups.
• Must possess a high degree of independent judgment and professionalism.
• Must be self-motivated with the ability to manage projects and personnel to meet technical, quality, budgetary, and scheduling requirements.
• Must be able to write proposals.
• Must possess proven client relationships supported by repeat business.
• Must be a team player with the patience and skill to train and mentor junior staff.
• Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret scientific work and technical journals.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Must have ability to professionally respond to questions and critiques from clients, regulatory agencies, and members of the business community.
