Job Summary:

The Systems Effectors: Processing, Guidance & Control Center is responsible for algorithm development including Guidance, Navigation, and Control; radio frequency (RF) and electro-optical/infrared (EO-IR) Signal Processing; and missile-and-sensor-level Modeling and Simulation for Raytheon's broad portfolio of projects, programs and products. In the GNC department, we design, integrate, and optimize guidance, navigation, state estimation, and control algorithms to meet mission objectives. We support new business initiatives and help develop & execute technology roadmaps.

Our GNC Department is hiring for a Principal Engineer to perform in the role of Guidance Algorithm Designer and Performance SME.

As the GNC SME for the program, you will generate midcourse and terminal Guidance Algorithms within MissileKit/C++ IFS and assess performance, working closely with the signal processing and operational analysis team. In addition, develop and maintain an Object-Oriented Six-Degrees-of-Freedom (6DOF) simulation for a range of use cases including algorithm development, system-performance analyses, requirements verification, trade studies, Mission Planning, and real-time weapon test facilities (e.g., Hardware-in-the-Loop). Lastly, you will offer experience and guidance to mentor members of the GNC team in algorithm development and Performance assessment, both from a conceptual perspective and within a MissileKit/C++ IFS environment.

This position is located in Tucson, AZ.

This position is an onsite role.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • The GNC SME will guide the team through several phases of product lifecycle such as designs, test, and analysis for multiple work-products.
  • You will evaluate and document subsystem requirements and test plans; peer reviews of work products such as a presentation to peers, management, and government customers; and root-cause failure investigations.
  • You will provide mentoring and guidance to all team members. 
  • You will apply extensive experience in task leadership and system level design, integration, and verification. 
  • You will support missile guidance tasks including guidance law development, state estimation, sensor fusion, trajectory shaping, and miss distance performance optimization. 
  • You will work with embedded software including real-time GNC algorithm development for missiles system products. 
  • You will support missile performance analysis including model development, system optimization, and Monte Carlo assessments with expected system disturbances.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of Guidance, Navigation and/or Controls related engineering experience.
  • Experience including at least two of the following: digital and modern control systems, dynamics, Kalman filter design, Monte Carlo, or signal processing. 
  • Experience with Matlab, C, C++, and/or Object Oriented design 
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in STEM.  
  • Experience with missiles or autonomous / collaborative air vehicles
  • Ability to facilitate and coordinate activities across multiple facilities and locations.
  • Results-oriented work ethic and able to communicate effectively with senior leadership and other engineering disciplines.
  • Capture effort coordination and developing proposals to obtain funding, spanning technical proposal development, work breakdown structures and cost estimation.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse team
  • Experience with Unix and/or Linux
