Alliant Energy has a unique opportunity for a Grassroots Community Engagement Partner to join our team in Madison, WI or Cedar Rapids, IA. If you love building grassroots support, developing communications that resonates with a variety of audiences and want to help others understand the importance of creating and using clean energy, apply today. In this position, you will develop and implement effective communications strategies, coordinate Community Engagement, manage stakeholder development and coordinate related collateral. In addition, you'll work closely with the Communications Team and internal clients to develop and implement strategic communications plans designed to generate external news about our products, services, purpose-driven strategy and Clean Energy Vision. This is a hybrid position and will work remotely and report to the Cedar Rapids, IA or Madison, WI office an average of one to two times per week. Candidates must reside in either Iowa or Wisconsin.
Travel is estimated to be 15% for this position. Most of this travel will consist of day trips with occasional overnight travel required.
What you will do
- Develop effective communications strategies and tactical communication plans for routine and moderately complex programs.
- Serve as Community Engagement Coordinator, managing stakeholder planning/engagement and efforts to create engagement.
- Execute tactical strategies and plans with consultation from subject matter experts and other team members, including more experienced staff and leadership.
- Develop plans related to Resource Development and/or Communications initiatives, as assigned.
- Participate and help guide communications planning activities, with understanding of the subject matter to make strategy recommendations and then incorporate into communications plan. Identify key stakeholders of the communication subject matter.
- Understand the objectives of recommended communications tools and assist with the counseling of clients on their appropriate use.
- Successfully develop and coordinate internal and external communications.
- May have general responsibility for one or more groups of customers, such as business units or multiple departments.
- Operate with moderate supervision.
- Develop collateral and communications (e.g., fact sheets, news releases, PowerPoint, talking points, info boards).
- Participate on cross-functional teams and/or project activities.
- May act as media spokesperson for moderately complex media inquiries.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree Emphasis in journalism, public policy, political science, communications, marketing, English, or related area Required
Required Experience
- 5 years technical and/or professional experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated community / grassroots engagement
- Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., email, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management) preferred.
