Position Title:Grants Manager

Status: Full-time/Non-exempt 

Reports To: Development Director

Location: Portland, OR (Hybrid telecommuting and in-office)

Salary: $52,000 – $61,745

We offer help and hope to individuals and communities and promote mental health for all. Our work addresses a spectrum of needs that include intervention, prevention, and advocacy. We educate, train, and advocate to prevent issues of substance abuse, mental illness, and thoughts of suicide from reaching crisis levels. But when a crisis arises or support is needed, we are available 24/7/365 to intervene with personalized help.

Grants ManagerPosition Overview: Lines for Life is seeking to hire a Grants Manager to join our dynamic and successful development team. We are looking for a person with excellent communication and organizational skills and an interest in growing in grant administration skills to help secure and manage the funding necessary to carry out Lines for Life’s mission of preventing substance abuse and promoting mental wellness. The Grants Manager will be responsible for project managing all of Lines for Life’s public grants and contracts from state agencies as well as private grants, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements. Additionally, this position will be responsible for establishing and maintaining systems to track all grants and facilitate meetings and communications with key stakeholders.


Grants Manager Responsibilities:

  • With strategic direction from the Development Director and Leadership Team, research and recommend funding opportunities that fit Lines for Life’s mission and programs.
  • Coordinate grant and contract proposal logistics with program teams including timelines, resource assignments, proposal submissions, and results.
  • Organize and lead regular grant meetings to review and evaluate upcoming opportunities and discuss deadlines, action items, and delegate roles for current grants and contracts.
  • Help draft and edit grant proposals and reports soliciting input from stakeholders from other departments; package and submit proposals.
  • Attend funder RFP meetings, pre-proposal conferences, grant workshops, etc.
  • Track the submission of grants (e.g. drafting, pending, submitted, awarded, denied) and grant reporting.
  • Maintain contract and grant reporting deadlines with the report writers and confirmation of follow-through. Organize copies of the reports on SharePoint.
  • Solicit feedback from funders on positioning new requests and reasons requests are denied.
  • Attend grant funder site visits and interviews with program teams as directed by the Development Director.
  • Research and implement grant management software to more efficiently research grant opportunities and manage funders, tasks, applications, reports, and important grant documents.
  • Connect with Chief Financial Officer regularly to develop and update project budgets for grants.
  • Reconcile grant and unrestricted income with finance office on a monthly basis using Salesforce reporting.
  • Attend monthly Board Governance Committee meetings and assist with committee tasks and projects.
  • Provide support to the fun and dynamic Development team with fundraising events coordination.
  • Assist with other administrative tasks as assigned by the Director of Development.


Grants Manager Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience and trainings in lieu of a degree.
  • A minimum of three years experience in an administrative position, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
  • Familiarity with development work and grant writing.
  • Strong analytical skills and database management experience.
  • Project coordination experience, and experience with major fundraising preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, donor database management experience and internet research skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to present information including grant outcomes and deliverables concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to key stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as outside clients and vendors.

Grants Manager Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least two years of experience in grant writing experience
  • Experience in the Development field in the Pacific Northwest and/or healthcare related foundations.
  • Advanced Salesforce and Excel reporting skills
  • Familiarity with local, state, and Federal grant programs.
