ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

The organization is a community-based 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation, established in 1996 with leadership from Wallowa County Commissioners. Since then, the organization has worked to bring people together to empower rural communities to create strong economies and healthy landscapes through land stewardship, education, and job creation. Headquartered in Wallowa County, we strive to help communities throughout Northeast Oregon balance rural economic well-being with the stewardship and conservation of their resources, preserving each rural area’s heritage of making a living from the land. We work with a wide range of public and private partners to undertake collective efforts that reduce wildfire risk, improve forest and watershed health, develop natural resources work forces, and increase effective collaboration among the region’s many interest groups. The organization is nationally recognized for its leadership and on-the-ground results in land stewardship, watershed restoration and education.

JOB SUMMARY

The Grant Writer and Development Manager supports core programs, planned program activities and key partners through grant opportunities and building relationships with philanthropic entities in our region and across the nation. Primary responsibilities include researching, identifying, developing, submitting, and reporting on grant proposals to public agencies and private foundations. The position is also responsible for fostering and developing relationships, and acting as a liaison with all private, public and tribal funding partners.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Researches and identifies new government, corporate, foundation, tribal and private funding prospects to match WR priorities;

  • Generates high-quality proposals, narratives, applications and supporting documents in response to solicitations consistent with all policies and procedures, and the requirements and guidelines of the funding agencies;

  • Generates revenues for programs through timely submission of well-researched, well written and well documented grant proposals;

  • Maintains primary responsibility for grant schedules and tracking grants;

  • Serves as a liaison to all funding agencies and organizations;

  • Works with appropriate personnel to research, develop, write and submit letters of inquiry, concept papers and grant proposals;

  • Coordinates and follows-up on the progress of submitted proposals;

  • Coordinates with the Program Managers to create expenditure and income budgets to accompany proposals;

  • Develops and maintains a master file on pending grants and contracts;

  • Meets regularly with program staff to discuss current and new funding needs;

  • Inform supervisor on the progress of all grants and issues that may arise with each grant.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

The following are the minimum levels required to successfully perform the Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred;

  • Grant writing experience, 3 to 5 years of experience as a successful Grant Writer;

  • Experience which should demonstrate a proven track record of securing grant funding opportunities; comprehensive knowledge of funding cycles, and the ability to distinguish and identify new opportunities for programs.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure;

  • Excellent writing, verbal and social skills;

  • Proficiency in research, interpreting, and analyzing diverse data;

  • Excellent Computer skills (Microsoft Office and Google Workspace), and familiarity with donor database management systems (Donorperfect, Salesforce, etc)

  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively and independently with purpose and accuracy in a fast-paced environment

  • Knowledge of grant application process, scoring criteria and funding cycles;

  • Previous federal grant application, submission, reporting experience

Hours & Location: This is a full-time position based in Enterprise, OR. Some remote work may be possible.

Salary & Benefits: $50,000 to $60,000 dependent on experience. Excellent benefits and flexible work policies.
