Job Summary/Basic Function:
THE RITA GOLD EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER seeks an experienced Teaching Assistant (Graduate Assistant) for 2023-2024 to support a play-based Early Childhood classroom with an emergent curriculum serving infants, toddlers or preschoolers. Candidate must be a Teachers College student with at least one year of experience with young children. Compensation includes stipend plus tuition credits.
Minimum Qualifications:
GAs are an integral part of our Center staff and we invite their full participation in all of the Center's special events and activities throughout the year.
Ability to lift small children under 6 to provide daily care
Work with young children as a classroom Assistant Teacher under the supervision of head teachers.
Support head teachers in all aspects of education and care of children including facilitating children's play and follow children's lead to enact an emergent curriculum.
GAs work approximately 20 hours per week, August 28 to December 22 and January 8-June 30, 2024.
Document children's development and experiences on a daily basis
Take increasing responsibility over time as you become more integrated into the classroom team. Take responsibility for the classroom in the absence of head teachers, such as due to parent conference, absence, etc.
Support other part-time staff in their teaching practice, such as by modeling high-quality teaching and care.
Prepare, maintain and organize classroom materials.
Communicate your observations with classroom teachers about students' needs.
Support a welcoming environment for families.
Write end of year narrative summary reports describing children's experience and development during the year.
Attend and participate in staff, team, and GA meetings.

$5000 - 9000/semester plus 6 tuition credits
