The Government Grants Writer is responsible for the coordination, research, writing, and submission of all government grant applications and grant compliance reports for government funding. The position is also responsible for assisting program staff with research relevant to new and/or modified proposal development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports and promotes the mission of the Agency: Foothill Family empowers children and families to achieve success in relationships, school, and work through community-based services that advance growth and development.
- Leads all government grant writing activities: Coordinates, researches, writes and edits the completion and timely submission of government grant proposals in conjunction with program staff, the Director of Program Development and the Executive Management Team in order to raise budgeted revenue.
- Works with the Director of Program Development, the Director of Foundation Grants and the program directors and managers to determine goals, objectives, scope, feasibility, funding needs and priorities for programs.
- Researches new funding and grant opportunities that may be appropriate for the Agency and aligns with the Agency’s strategic goals, and brings that to the attention of the Director of Program Development. Subscribes to funding opportunity listservs from city, county, state, and federal agencies.
- Establishes a research library, maintains grant files and maintains a calendar showing grants submitted, pending, and report deadlines. Maintains collateral material for submission with grant applications.
- Stays informed and updated on current public and private grant availability, and foundation practices and procedures and informs staff of matters that will benefit them in their work and on behalf of the Agency.
- Supports Agency policies and the smooth functioning and communication within the department and the Agency.
- Displays sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomics characteristics.
- Performs work in a safe manner at all times and ensures employees are abiding by safety practices; takes action when employees put themselves or others at risk.
- Follows all policies, procedures and legal mandates including HIPAA, client confidentiality, releases of information, protected health information (PHI) and client files.
- Ensures performance and behaviors support the Agency’s performance quality improvement (PQI) goals and objectives.
- Reports to work on time and maintains reliable and regular attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from a four-year accredited college or university preferred, and at least three years of experience in professional writing. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in government grant writing where a project has been funded.
- Excellent research, writing, grammar, spelling and proofreading skills.
- Experience researching available data sources where results have been used in support of a written proposal.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to track and meet deadlines.
- Ability to write and work under time pressure.
- Computer and internet literate.
- Ability to perform an array of complex duties, ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively.
- Ability to be flexible, work independently, and be a self-starter.
- Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with individuals from diverse socio-economic cultural and ethnic groups.
- Results and detail orientated.
- Ability to work as part of a team and be able to relate well with the public, community, and volunteers and support groups of the Agency.
- Valid CA Driver’s License and maintains insurability on the Agency’s auto liability policy (including a minimum of 2 years driving experience after receiving license) and maintains the California state required auto insurance liability limits.
