Grant Writer

ORGANIZATION: Rise Up Industries (RUI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to minimize gang involvement through an integrated approach of gang prevention, gang intervention, and post-detention reentry services. We began this three-pronged approach with our Reentry Program for formerly gang-involved individuals recently released from incarceration. The 18-month program is in its ninth year of operation and provides comprehensive wraparound services such as employment, job training, mental health services, case management services, mentoring, and tattoo removal.

RUI plans to double the Reentry Program’s service capacity by the end of 2025. The Development Associate will help strengthen the organization’s fundraising capacity in preparation for this growth.

CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, hourly position: 40 hours/week

POSITION TITLE: Grant Writer

REPORTS TO: Development Director

LOCATION: RUI’s office in Santee (project moving to the City of San Diego in May of 2024).

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: $24-$30/hour. Employer-provided health insurance (50% monthly premium), 15 PTO days (increases to 20 PTO days after 5 years of employment), 7 paid holidays, career advancement opportunities, professional development opportunities.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The full-time Grant Writer will work closely with the Development Director and the Development Committee to assist in executing day-to-day organizational development activities with a primary focus on grant writing and reporting. RUI is on track to fulfill its Development Plan goal of 100 grants submitted in 2024.

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, a skilled technical writer, teachable, experienced in database management, and able to meet deadlines and adapt to changing needs and opportunities.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: RUI’s staff and volunteers work together to create and maintain a welcoming environment of belonging and kinship. All are expected to embrace and promote RUI’s Core Values through their everyday example. Key duties will support RUI’s fundraising goals and organizational growth as follows:

· Write first draft of grant applications

· Write grant reports

· Research new grant opportunities

· Review and follow grant procedures

· Track grant information including application deadlines and reporting requirements in grant tracking excel workbook

· Support the Development Director in planning and executing fundraising events

· Participate in the Development Committee

· Assist Development Director in donor communications (e.g., thank you letters, email updates)

· Maintain RUI’s donor database (Kindful)

· Coordinate mailings

Other related duties, as requested, including an ability to occasionally work weekends and weeknights.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED SKILLS

· Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience (technical writing experience preferred)

· Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail and follow-through

· Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills

· Mission-driven person with strong work ethic

· Preferred experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds

· Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

· Preferred experience with managing databases

· Ability to work well independently, with a high level of professionalism
