The Gloria Jones-Bey Certified Nursing Assistant Trainee Program is a paid training program designed for internal and external applicants. The CNA Trainee position is an entry level position that facilitates the team member’s access to a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) career at UnityPoint Health-Meriter. Upon successful completion of the trainee program and passing the CNA certification exam, the team member will transition into a CNA I 0.5 or higher FTE position at Unity Point Health-Meriter. **If the Gloria Jones-Bey Certified Nursing Assistant Pathways Program participant is under 18 years of age, they are only eligible to participate in the summer cohorts. They can also accept a Certified Nursing Assistant position in a .2 FTE role or higher after completing the program. During the duration of the Program, you will receive a biweekly stipend for 6 weeks (3 X $453.33).

Orientation: Meet with UnityPoint Health-Meriter Employee Health and CHES (6/24)
Online Classes Start: 7/1 (45 hours of online course content and 35 hours of in-person, hands-on skills/clinical training)
In person Dates: 7/30, 7/31, 8/1, 8/2, 8/3, 8/5, 8/6, 8/7, 8/19 and 8/20-8/22.
Program Overview:
UnityPoint Health-Meriter is partnering with the Center for Healthcare Education and Simulation to provide this training at 3001 W. Beltline Hwy, Madison, WI 53713. You will complete the course that will make you eligible to sit for the Certified Nursing Assistant exam. You will be paid for the 80 hours to complete the program by stipend. Tuition for the program is 100% covered by UnityPoint Health - Meriter. This program will also cover the cost for you to sit for one attempt of the Nursing Assistant Certification Examination. Additional expenses, such as transportation to clinics for clinical requirements, are not covered as part of this program. We will provide you with textbooks, laboratory materials, instructional resources, and academic support. Once you have successfully completed the program you will transition into your CNA position which could be a mixture of Days, PMs, and Nights.
About Gloria Jones-Bey
The Gloria Jones-Bey Nursing Assistant Program is named in honor of Gloria Jones-Bey, a former Vice President at Meriter Hospital and respected African American nursing professional in the Madison community. Born in Georgia and raised in New York, Gloria began her career as a medical technician. In 1967, she graduated magna cum laude from Long Island University, earned a Master's in Public Administration from New York University in 1971 and completed post-graduate work in health care economics. Gloria came to Madison in 1978 and contributed significantly to innovative program development and quality improvement at Meriter Hospital, from which she retired in 1995. For her entire career, she advocated for nurses and worked diligently for quality nursing care.
Eligibility:
Enrolled in high school or GED equivalent program and at least 16 years old.
Qualified to meet CNA program requirements for admission
No previous/healthcare experience required
Sign a team member agreement committing to work for UPH-Meriter as a CNA for at least 12 months.
