Department Summary
The role of Tourism, Sports and Visitor Experiences is to maximize annual visitation for all domestic and international leisure visitors for year-round, overnight stays with an emphasis on strengthening travel during weekend and off-peak periods. Efforts include attracting international and domestic group and individual travel for all vacation travel, sporting events, education group travel, adult group tour and special event programs that drive overnight bookings to Washington, DC.
Position Summary
The Global Tourism Development Coordinator provides principal logistical support to Global Tourism initiatives and the daily operations of the Tourism, Sports and Visitor Experiences Departments. Reports To: Director, Global Tourism Development. This position is ideal for you if you thrive in keeping everyone organized and possess agile project management skills; you enjoy engaging with an international audience and connecting with multicultural people in different settings; and you are eloquent and can comfortably liaise with leadership and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: ( to include but are not limited):
- Act as main support for the Director of Global Tourism Development and execute ad hoc projects related to overseas markets
- Support the Global Tourism Strategy Manager in the execution and coordination of global marketing cooperative opportunities with tour operators and online travel agencies.
- Support the department in the execution of the annual action plan to include but not limited to: Special events, tradeshows, site inspections and tours (FAM) itineraries. This will be accomplished in conjunction with the assigned manager on initial draft itineraries, outreach to customers/members and partners, execution of all events, fulfillment of assets of tradeshow booths and coordinates follow-up for all activities.
- Coordinate the execution of the destination trainings calendar and presentations.
- Maintain working relationship with hospitality and tourism industry and keeps local businesses informed of various tourism and visitor service programs.
- Attend local events as needed on behalf of the Director of Global Tourism Development.
- Generate and distributes tourism leads and partner referrals to Destination DC membership when sales managers are not available.
- Execute all other duties as assigned by the department heads.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent two-four years professional experience in hospitality & tourism management, sales, marketing, or related field preferred.
- Strong command of Microsoft Office applications and destination management software systems required; email distribution platforms and Cvent.
- Superior time management skills; the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; additional spoken/written language a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills; Team player and capable of thinking outside the box
- Superior organizational/presentation skills and attention to detail
- Ability to solve problems and manage multiple projects
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends; ability to travel as needed
- Must be able to legally work in the United States of America
- Must be fully vaccinated from Covid-19
