Kinds of Work: We are seeking a passionate, experienced Public Health Educator with strong facilitation and community engagement skills to join our Healthy Communities team. We are focused on a work/life balance for all of our employees, 13 paid holidays per year, and flexibility in scheduling. GCHHS prioritizes prevention and early intervention, and the Healthy Communities Team is an integral part of that focus. This position serves as the agency's lead on diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging work, championing health equity within the agency, convening internal equity committees, developing equitable policies, facilitating staff development opportunities, and maintaining communication with community partners, especially those who serve people in marginalized communities or those with barriers to receiving services and support. The position will also require flexibility and the ability to work on a variety of additional Public Health issues, including a current focus on leading grant-funded traffic safety projects.
Examples of Work:
• Leads, coordinates, facilitates, recruits, and evaluates committees, teams, or coalitions to promote health / prevent chronic disease and injury
• Works with law enforcement, first responders, and public works to review traffic fatalities and identify ways to prevent traffic deaths
• Leads two internal equity committees (GCHHS department equity committee and the county equity committee)
• Builds support for and fosters a shared understanding of the critical importance of equity to achieve community health and well-being
• Collaborates with agencies/coalitions in the county.
• Engages the community through meeting with organizational leaders, residents, and others.
• Provides Public Health expertise to community organizations and residents.
• Researches what programs and policies work to promote health.
• Collaborates with partners, communities, and individuals to understand health issues from the perspective of lived experience.
• Develops education materials and presentations. Provides education to address preventable health conditions and injury.
• Convenes and leads cross-sector partners.
• Describes conditions, systems, and policies affecting community health (which may include social determinants of health, structural racism, or trauma)
• Acts as a liaison for Public Health between the agency and the community.
• Shares power and ownership with community members and others.
• Gathers and analyzes data for purposes of assessment, engagement, performance management and evaluation.
• Develops messaging for communicating Public Health data and information with internal and external audiences.
• Develop, implement, monitor, track, and update work plans.
• Maintains related records and documentation and prepares reports.
• Assists with writing proposals to continue funding for programs and activities.
• Assists with financial and budget reports
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Minimum Qualifications:
Baccalaureate in community health, health education, or related field such as Public Administration, Planning, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work and four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience working with community-based initiatives or collaboration with multiple groups in the area of health prevention/promotion.
Graduate degree in community health, Public Health, or related field may substitute for two (2) years of experience.
Must have a valid driver's license.
The pay is $33.48/hour. Full time 40 hours/week. The County's comprehensive benefit package includes medical, dental and vision insurance, health savings account, employer paid life insurance, short and long-term disability insurance, pre-tax flexible spending accounts, Public Employees Retirement Plan, tax-deferred compensation, generous vacation and sick leave and 13 paid holidays per year.
