Job Description
Updates and maintains data in the City's Geographic Information System (GIS).
GIS Specialist - As-built Records Management:
- Reviews and catalogs engineering as-built drawings in compliance with Federal, State and Local guidelines.
- Processes public records requests for engineering as-builts.
- Reads and interprets engineering construction drawings; enters information into GIS database.
- Updates and edits existing geospatial data.
Essential Functions
- Performs quality checks of data.
- Compiles field notes, additional information, and materials for resource purposes.
- Maintains daily task log.
- Updates and edits existing geospatial data.
- Transcribes and loads data in paper or electronic forms into the spatial enterprise geodatabase.
- Locates utility infrastructure and other items for other departments, as necessary.
- Responds to internal and external inquiries – email, phone, Drop Box, etc.
- Reads and interprets engineering construction drawings; enters information into database.
- Provides backup support for other staff within the same classification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Experience with practices and procedures of construction as-built and GIS Records Management system.
- Record and verify spatial data using GPS survey equipment; apply mathematical reasoning and special orientation; operate a personal computer and related software or programs including computer aided design and engineering software applications (ArcGIS is required, AutoCad is a plus.).
- English grammar and punctuation as well as symbols and terminology used in engineering drawings; records research skills; read and interpret maps, civil engineering plans and other documents; demonstrate organizational skill and perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.
- Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Customer Service skills are a plus.
- Present a positive public image and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees, developers, and the public; maintain a professional demeanor during stressful situations.
- 2-3 years of experience required.
