The Opportunity
Abt Associates seeks a GIS practitioner with extensive ArcGIS Online experience to support the development and delivery of environment and energy sector applications for federal government clients including the Environmental Protection Agency. The selected candidate will bring a consultant mindset to linking client needs to relevant geospatial solutions. Analytical thinking, product mindset, and interest in working in a collaborative, cross-disciplinary environment that includes scientists, policy specialists, data scientists, UX designers, and developers is important for this position.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Design solutions to derive insights from spatial data, with particular focus on environmental, health, and socio-economic data.
- Manage tasks and small teams to translate client requirements and user needs into ArcGIS Online products.
- Perform GIS analysis in raster and vector formats.
- Automate GIS workflows using Python and R.
- Collaborate with teams to develop analytic use cases and estimate technical levels of effort.
Preferred Skills/Prerequisites
- Demonstrated experience creating and managing applications using the ArcGIS Online suite, including ArcGIS Hub, Experience Builder, ArcGIS Dashboards, Survey123, Story Maps, etc.
- Strong analytic and cartographic capabilities using ArcGIS Pro and related extensions (e.g., Spatial Analyst, Network Analyst, Geostatistical Analyst).
- Experience serving as technical/product lead for small teams.
- Experience scripting with Python and R.
- Experience with environmental data is plus.
- Experience compiling databases from numerous, disparate data sources, including performing related QA/QC.
- Ability to manage competing project demands while maintaining a high attention to detail.
- Experience working for Federal government clients. Delivery experience with EPA is preferred.
- MA/MS or PhD in GIS, physical geography, ecology, earth sciences or related field is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications
BA/BS plus 5 years of experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $80,000 to $100,000 and may vary by ten percent depending on candidate geographic location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
