The Prince George's County Government Department of Public Work & Transportation is seeking a qualified applicant to fill a GIS Data & Application Specialist(Planner 3A) position, grade A24, within the Office of The Director.
About the Position:
This senior level professional position is responsible for transit planning studies and tasks in support of DPWT's GIS Data Program within Office of The Director. The incumbent of this position will serve as the Transit GIS Data/Application Specialist and will be responsible for a variety of specific transit data and GIS projects and may provide technical support to offices within DPWT. Work is performed independently with regular review and general supervision under the GIS Program Manager.
What You'll Do:
  • Provides technical support for specific transit planning studies or tasks related to TheBus transit route, and service planning and system development.
  • Monitors and reports on transit services, productivity, and ridership; guidance of technical staff.
  • Participates in transit planning studies and reviews of transit plans and documents such as fiscal, fare and service analysis.
  • Performs Geographic Information System (GIS) tasks and projects in support of Office of Storm Drain Maintenance, Office of Highway Maintenance, and Vision Zero Program among other offices.
  • Conducts operational level route data gathering and assessment of transit services to include evaluation of requests for new services; requests to change existing services; and periodic service analysis and reviews.
  • Conducts system development and transit and service route planning for TheBus, and monitors transit services reports, productivity, and ridership level.
  • Participates in transit planning studies and reviews of transit plans and documentation; fiscal, fare, and service analysis.
  • Analyzes, summarizes, and report daily transit data and metrics related to all aspects of DPW&T transit system performance.
  • Maintains statistics and reports on performance of transit programs and services for reporting to the National Transit Database monthly and annual reports.
  • Maintains GIS activities related to the consent decree (CD), BMPs, field data deployment and management via existing databases and online systems.
  • Assists the Right of Way Division with creating and using GIS as system of record and analysis.
  • Prepares and submits accurate and complete transit system statistics that are current and filed properly in coordination with other Office of Transportation planners and engineers.
  • Compiles transit system reports within appropriate deadlines and confirms that they are accurate and complete; and address all issues and concerns.
  • Supports the development, analysis and maintenance of TheBus schedule of operations in collaboration with staff of the Office of Transportation.
  • Documents and reports PGC-311 requests related to transit, Highway Maintenance, Storm Drain Maintenance and other service/facility issues.
  • Willingly and cooperatively performs other duties and tasks which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level associated with the employee's class of work.
  • Participates as a critical/essential employee in the Department's Snow and Ice Control Program and other emergency/special activities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor's degree in urban and regional planning, public administration, economics, business administration, political science, environmental science, public health or other closely related fields.
  • Two (2) years of professional planning/program development experience in the area of assignment.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Geographic, Geospatial, Cartographic or related sciences
  • At least 5-7 years of GIS related work experience in transit and public works related projects.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Upon selection, the candidate must:
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Be willing to participate as an "essential" employee in the Department's Snow and Ice
Control Program and other emergency operations as assigned.
- Pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening.

DURATION OF ELIGIBILITY: Candidates will be selected from a temporary register of eligible candidates, which will become effective approximately four (4) weeks after the closing date. Once a selection has been made, the register will expire.
