An employee in this position will be successful by consistently expanding their knowledge about Assessor-Treasurer business processes and obtaining a good working knowledge of the County's role in the community. It is expected the employee will immediately learn Pierce County and Assessor- Treasurer policies and procedures and begin training in various software needed to adequately perform the responsibilities of the position.

Core Daily Responsibilities:
- Reviews all subdivision documents, boundary line revisions and condominium plans, prior to recording to determine compliance with statutory requirements and ensure accuracy with legal description and ownership for segregation and/or other changes for property transactions.
- Identify, locate, and updates all subdivision documents, boundary line revisions and condominiums in SDE using Coordinate geometry (COGO) in ArcGIS Pro.
- Writes concise legal descriptions which specifically identify real property parcels; compares adjoining property legal descriptions for overlaps or gaps and updates GIS.
- Calculates area for new and existing parcels; prorates existing assessed values among all parcels; obtains updated values from appraisers; determines location of all buildings.
- Makes changes within the tax administration program to remove from, or add to, tax rolls specific kinds of property.
- Utilizes aerial photos to assist in process of locating buildings, boundaries, and forest Lands in GIS.

- An associates degree in geography, engineering, GIS or related field and
- Two or more years of digital (computerized) mapping, related field work or applied use of GIS technology experience for a municipal planning/zoning office, surveyor, or civil engineering office.
- Additional education or related experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements.
- Knowledge of County GIS data bases
- Knowledge of Coordinate geometry (COGO), photogrammetry and land surveying techniques.
- Knowledge and understanding of county and municipal subdivision codes.
- Knowledge of all types of legal descriptions.
- Knowledge of property tax ordinances and legislation.
- Knowledge of tax assessment rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Knowledge of fundamentals of real property appraisal, property title, encumbrance, and transfer.
- Knowledge of basic algebra and geometry used in calculating property size and value.
