Job Summary


The Director of Operations is responsible for leading the team that manufactures parts at our On Demand manufacturing facility. This is a leadership role – responsible for numerous activities such as on-site operational activities, staffing, capacity & asset utilization, shaping local strategy, continuous improvement activities, leading our focus on safety and quality, and planning, directing, and coordinating the daily operations. This role will also provide the overall business strategy and effective management guidance for the manufacture of parts built at our On Demand facility, organize activities to ensure the business meets its customer commitments, maintain a positive working environment and provide leadership towards the achievement of maximum profitability and growth in line with Quickparts values and behaviors.

Primary Job Functions

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement manufacturing strategies that align with the company's business goals and objectives. This may involve setting production targets, cost reduction initiatives, and quality improvement programs.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of manufacturing professionals, including production managers, supervisors, engineers, and other staff. Provide coaching, mentoring, and development opportunities to enhance team performance.
  • Production Management: Oversee day-to-day manufacturing operations, including production scheduling, resource allocation, and inventory management. Ensure production targets are met while maintaining product quality and cost efficiency.
  • Budgeting and Cost Control: Develop and manage the manufacturing budget, monitoring expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities. Implement strategies to optimize resource utilization and reduce operational costs.
  • Quality Assurance: Establish and maintain quality control processes to ensure that products meet or exceed established quality standards. Implement and improve quality assurance and continuous improvement programs.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure that manufacturing operations comply with all relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. Implement safety protocols and drive a culture of safety within the manufacturing team.
  • Supply Chain Coordination: Collaborate with the supply chain and procurement teams to ensure the timely availability of raw materials and components required for production.
  • Technology and Automation: Explore and implement new technologies, automation, and lean manufacturing techniques to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and increase productivity.
  • Performance Metrics: Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure manufacturing performance. Regularly analyze data and make data-driven decisions to optimize operations.
  • Communication: Maintain open communication channels with other departments, such as sales, marketing, engineering, and senior management, to ensure alignment and effective collaboration.

Education and Training

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering, manufacturing, business management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years management experience in manufacturing operations

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Extensive experience in manufacturing management, including leadership roles.
  • Energetic with a clear sense of urgency and direction; able to inspire and invigorate associates at all levels; promote concepts effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality standards, and production techniques.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in budgeting and financial management.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of modern manufacturing technologies and Industry 4.0 concepts is beneficial.
  • Experience in additive/advanced manufacturing production services considered a strong plus
  • Strong analytical skills – able to assist in identifying and providing solutions to complex operational and financial issues. Able to create clear action plans.
  • Knowledge of ISO9001 Quality Management Systems required
  • Ability to travel as required
