Summary
The purpose of Turkey House Caretaker is to care for the hen turkeys, gather eggs and maintain the hen turkey house.
Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Travel continuously during shift throughout the hen turkey house on a litter and gravel surface in order to gather eggs, care for the hen turkeys, and maintain the hen house.
- Pick up eggs from a conveyor belt at a rate of up to 16 eggs per minute.
- Push turkeys weighing up to 35 pounds off their nests in order to gather eggs.
- Lift up items such as litter; feed and egg baskets weighing up to 80 pounds.
- Move about the turkey hen house to check feeders; clean drinkers; spread litter and other duties necessary to care for the hen turkeys.
Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED Preferred.
Experience Preferred
1 year of previous experience. Strong reading, communication, math, writing and analytical skills are required.
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
- In stationary positions, or moving for up to 12 hours on a wet, moist, dry, greasy, smooth, rough and uneven floors which include concrete and litter surfaces.
- Ability to work from various ladders.
- Exposure to work temperature of <0 to >100 degrees Fahrenheit with ambient humidity or dry exposure.
- Noise exposure of <90db and light intensity range of <50 to >100 foot candles.
- Bending, twisting, lifting, reaching, sitting and grasping varies in repetitions, distance, degrees, angle, weight, height, longest interval of time, objects grasped and body position depends upon the task being performed.
- Must be able to work outside in all conditions of weather.
- Exposure to chlorinated water <50ppm, ammonia vapors >5ppm, lubricating oils, hydraulic oils, salt and other chemicals found in a poultry breeder operation.
- Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for job.
