Every day, more architects, engineers, contractors, developers, and owners specify Wells precast building components for their construction needs and with this continued success, we are looking to add to our General Counsel to join our team. This position starts around $135,000.00 / based on experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Employment Law Matters:
- Provide advice on employment law issues, including workforce planning, hiring, termination, discrimination, workplace safety, and employee benefits.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures in compliance with labor laws and regulations.
- Represent the company in employment-related litigation and negotiations.
Environmental Law Matters:
- Advise on environmental legal aspects, including compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Oversee legal issues related to waste management, air quality, water quality, and land use.
- Coordinate with environmental agencies and represent the company in environmental litigation.
Contract Language Matters:
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts related to construction projects, including agreements with suppliers, clients, and subcontractors.
- Ensure all contractual terms comply with legal standards and serve the best interests of the company.
- Provide training to staff on contractual obligations and risk management.
Construction Industry Specific Items:
- Advise on legal matters specific to the construction industry, including project financing, liens, bonding, and insurance.
- Handle disputes related to construction defects, delays, and contract breaches.
- Keep abreast of changes in laws affecting the construction industry and advise the management accordingly.
Corporate affairs:
- Oversight of, and compliance with, state requirements relative to licenses, permits and filings necessary for Wells to conduct business in a particular state.
- Assist in managing insurance company claims.
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the state bar with an active license, with a preference of CO, IL, MN and/or WI.
- Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, preferably in the manufacturing or construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of employment law, environmental law, and contract law.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license, and the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for typing, filing, and using office equipment.
- Visual acuity and ability to read small print.
- Hearing acuity and ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Ability to lift and move office supplies and equipment.
- Mobility and ability to move around the office as needed.
