This position provides teaching of GED/Adult Basic Education classes and other classes as deemed appropriate to the inmate population for the Detention Facility of the Adams County Sheriff's Office.*Develop, plan evaluate and revise GED curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction for students of wide ranging abilities
- Committed to a high standard of safety laws and all of the Sheriff's Office policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel
- Works under the general direction of the Programs Supervisor
- Instruct adult and juvenile inmates who are on a spectrum of a 1st through 12th grade education
- Teach Reading, Social Studies, Science, Writing and Math to include Algebra, Geometry and Statistics
- Effectively communicate with students who are moving from their native language to English
- Prepare class lists for classes provided and checks inmate-housing restrictions to avoid conflict between inmates
- Communicate effectively in verbal and written English
- Must have a Bachelors Degree in Education or related field
- Teaching experience in GED/Adult Basic Education
- Two or more years teaching experience in a detention setting and an additional two years teaching adults preferred
- Knowledge of human behavior and performance
- Understanding of behavioral and affective disorders
- Experience working with a population in crisis, undergoing trauma and the aftermath of life changing stressors
- Experience working with an emotionally fragile group of men and women who may be struggling with mental disorders, a criminal mentality and substance abuse issues
- Valid Colorado driver's license
