Title:GARE Online Community Specialist[Temporary]

Reports to: GARE Director of Online CommunityFLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Salary Range: $35.58 per hour

Location: Remote

Preferred Dates of Employment: March 4, 2024 - July 1, 2024

Preferred Hours: 15 hrs/week, 4-5 days per week required, 1/3 of working hours must be between 11 am - 5 pm ET

The Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE) is a national network of local, regional and state government jurisdictions. Racial equity practitioners within member jurisdictions design and implement strategies that serve to advance a more racially just and equitable society.

Specifically, GARE fosters critical connections among racial equity leaders and practitioners in order to develop and share skills, lessons and approaches to strengthen racial equity policies, practices and cultural strategies within jurisdictions.

Position Summary

The TemporaryGARE Online Community Specialist supports day-to-day access and site administration of the GARE Online Community, a Higher Logic Thrive Online Community site that brings together thousands of racial equity practitioners working in government for peer interaction, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration.  

Specifically, the Online Community Specialist supports users, member groups, events, and resource libraries; provides technical support; assists with day-to-day community moderation and engagement; and generates reports / synthesizes site data. This role is both interactive and technical - supporting access and providing technical and informational support to users, identifying and addressing issues, and appropriately engaging the Online Community Director or other staff when needed. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Works under the direction of the GARE Director of Online Community to: 

Daily Tasks [position requires that work be performed over a minimum of 4 days/week] 

  • Manage day-to-day access to the GARE Online Community for users and member jurisdictions, ensuring that new account requests are reviewed and determined on a daily basis
  • Update and manage contact/user records in Salesforce
  • Ensure platform and data security is maintained, flagging issues related to security, privacy, or community standards 
  • Triage and respond to user inquiries related to the GARE Online Community on the Higher Logic Thrive Platform 
  • Provide technical support to users and other GARE/Race Forward staff through a variety of channels, including email, phone
  • Monthly Tasks
  • Generate reports and gather data for monthly platform metrics report by the 5th day of each month

As time allows, this role may also:

  • Update Online Community user guides and video tutorials
  • Monitor and engage with GARE Online Community via discussion threads, review Daily Digests and other community posts for unanswered questions, connections to resources, and themes 
  • Support organization of content in GARE Online Community resource library, enabling and supporting users to find material and responding to requests for information 
  • Support and edit events using Higher Logic Event Manager, as needed 

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

To perform successfully in this role, incumbent should possess skills identified below:  

  • Demonstrated commitment to racial equity and social justice work 
  • Strong organizational and analytic skills and ability to manipulate and analyze data, with a high attention to detail
  • Highly responsive and able to support and engage with a large number of people
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with other staff and Online Community users. Must also be able to work independently 
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral 
  • Fluency with MS Office systems, including Word and Excel 
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and Higher Logic platforms, preferred 
  • A high level of ability and comfort with online technologies and enthusiasm to work as part of a fully remote team.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and able to authentically convey a sociable, caring, engaging, and approachable affect to build meaningful relationships with members on behalf of the organization

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in related fields
  • Two to three years of administrative/project management experience 
  • Experience working with online communities like Higher Logic, preferred

This temporary, part-time position is being created to cover the work of a staff person who is on temporary leave.
