The School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) at Rutgers University is the largest academic unit of the University and is comprised of 41 academic departments spanning humanities, social, physical and life sciences and over 100 different majors, plus programs, centers, bureaus and institutes. Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Full Stack Developer for the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS). We are looking for a candidate that has experience in building high performing, scalable, enterprise grade applications, to be part of a talented software development team that works on mission critical cutting-edge online education and instructional technology applications.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Responsible for estimating resources, skill requirements, time requirements, identifying tools and technologies and participating in proof of concepts during initial phases of the projects.
  • Responsible for the java/java EE application development while providing expertise in the full software development lifecycle, from concept and design to testing.
  • Identify target audience and accordingly set up the server and database architecture to support highly incoming network traffic across a group of backend resources or servers.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of web application development experience.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Hand-on experience using MVC and Restful application architecture designs.
  • Must be able to provide hands on software development experience as well as working experience in java development.
  • Must have hands on experience in designing and developing applications using Java EE platforms, Object Oriented analysis and design using common design patterns.
  • Must have detailed working knowledge of java and J2EE internals (Classloading, memory management, transaction management, etc.).
  • Knowledge developing in Python, writing scalable code for backend components, knowledge of object-relational mapping and experience in server-side logic.
  • Knowledge of Azure/AWS Cloud services and infrastructure.
  • Excellent knowledge of Relational Databases and SQL.
  • Experience developing web applications using at least one popular web framework (GWT, Spring MVC etc) as well as experience with test driven development
  • Must have knowledge implementing security layers.
  • Familiarity with Version Controlling system such as GIT/SVN
  • Knowledge developing SPA using frameworks like AngularJS/2+, jQuery, NodeJS and Grunt.
  • Knowledge of responsive designs for mobile devices.
  • Knowledge of UI/UX mockup/wireframes using Adobe XD.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Twelve (12) years of web application development experience.
  • Be highly motivated, team-oriented, flexible, organized, detail-oriented, capable of on-the-job learning, and focused on completing projects in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with multiple constituencies, juggle multiple projects and perform on multiple teams, while providing exceptional customer service is required.
  • Ability to effectively articulate technical concepts, both verbally and in writing, to people in non-technical positions.

Equipment Utilized
  • The Application Developer will be provided with a high end workstation and 2 monitors.
  • The software required for development work as well as a number of robust testing platforms will be provided as needed and will be purchase by the center as needed.
