Sr. Software Engineer - Full Stack (Java / React)
Location: Company Based out of Woburn, MA
Remote or hybrid, Full Time (we’re built to work from anywhere) (we do not offer C2C or C2H positions)
Prendio is a fast-growing startup in the Boston area that provides a SAAS procurement platform focused on the life science space. We exist to help our customers streamline their procurement process and allow them to focus on discovery and working towards building a healthier world.
Our platform is built via multiple technologies but relies heavily on a Java backend and JavaScript front end. We are looking for a Full Stack engineer who will develop features on our current technical stack, but also help us migrate to a newer React frontend and updated Spring Boot API backend.
You will be joining a small, but rapidly growing team of hands-on engineers who are passionate about the product. We are focused on moving fast but making sure we keep a focus on customer experience and reliability. We have a very flat organization hierarchy, hold ourselves accountable to each other, and provide the opportunity to work on all parts of the platform.
We expect Sr. Software Engineers to take ownership over a significant body of software. You should be able to break down complex tasks, make reasonable decisions, and operate fairly independently between periodic check-ins. Communication and critical thinking skills are essential.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop React components and layouts for our applications
- Develop Java back-end APIs and workflows
- Build solid relational database structures and SQL queries
- Break down technical specifications into epics and appropriately sized stories
Requirements and skills
- Proven experience as a Full Stack Developer or similar role
- Extensive experience with React / Typescript
- Extensive experience developing with Java language and frameworks (e.g. Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA)
- Experience building REST APIs, implementing persistence layer and solid understanding client/server architecture
- Knowledge of relational database structures and SQL
- Experience working in agile development process (we utilize Scrum)
- Knowledge of procurement / financial subject matter (e.g. Punchout, cXML, ERPs) would be great, but not required
As a lead for this team, we are looking for someone who can:
- Drive the implementation of new feature development; both as a lead and individual contributor. This is a very hands-on role
- Collaborate with the product team and engineering leadership to create technical specifications/sprint stories from business requirements. Good communication is a must.
- Managing sprints, leading daily standups, keep the team accountable
- Build domain expertise in the procurement space and apply engineering expertise to develop new product features
- Review code and mentor team to ensure best practices are followed
- Define application architecture
Required Qualifications
- Relevant job experience as Software Engineering with an expert level of Java programming knowledge. Knowledge of Spring Boot preferred
- A "team focus" with strong collaboration and communication skills
- Experience building REST APIs, implementing persistence layer with a solid understanding of client/server architecture
- A demonstrated ability to lead teams; manage scrum
- The ability to quickly grasp and distill highly complex business needs and user issues into clear, understandable solutions
- Development experience with a unit testing framework (JUnit and experience employing TDD preferred)
- Proficiency with SQL, databases such as MySQL, Postgres or Oracle, relational data modeling, and basic database schema design
- Ability to solve architectural and system issues involving scalability, distributed systems, and relational databases
- Ability to fluidly change context and priorities based on changing business needs
