Game Designer
As a game Designer, you will be an essential contributor to our game development team, actively shaping the gameplay and interactive experiences within our projects. Your experience and creative insights will play a pivotal role in delivering captivating and memorable gaming experiences to our players.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Conceptualize, Prototype, Iterate, and Deliver: Create and develop level designs that align with the game's design objectives. This includes ideation, prototyping, iterative refinement, and successful delivery of engaging and well-balanced gameplay experiences.
- Documentation and Advocacy: Thoroughly document level designs using Confluence and advocate for these designs throughout the iterative design process, ensuring alignment with the overall vision of the game.
- Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Collaborate closely with engineering and art teams to translate design concepts into in-game environments and experiences, ensuring that they meet the desired quality and performance standards.
- Ownership and Drive: Take ownership of existing level designs, oversee their development, and drive them to completion, maintaining consistency with the overarching game vision.
- Innovation and Expansion: Continuously seek opportunities to enhance and expand game designs by introducing creative ideas for new gameplay mechanics or features that can elevate the player experience.
Skills and Abilities:
- 3D Level Design: Proficiency in creating 3D levels using Unity, Probuilder, or Unreal Engine, with a focus on building immersive and engaging game environments.
- Scripting: Ability to utilize various scripting languages to implement and fine-tune gameplay mechanics, events, and interactions within the game world.
- Documentation: Strong documentation skills, ensuring that design concepts are well-documented, organized, and easily accessible to the team.
- Adaptation: Capability to work effectively within the constraints of existing design frameworks and adapt designs as needed to meet evolving project requirements.
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for conveying design ideas, collaborating with team members, and advocating for design choices.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to thrive in a cross-functional team environment, working collaboratively with artists, engineers, and other team members to achieve the common goals of the project.
Education and Experience:
- Educational Background: A Bachelor's Degree in a related field an Associate Degree, or equivalent work experience.
- Professional Experience: A minimum of 2 years of professional experience as a Level Designer, including at least one shipped title in 3D games with a multiplayer component.
- Unity/Unreal Proficiency: Experience in creating levels in Unity or Unreal Engine.
- Level Design Expertise: A deep understanding of level design concepts and principles, including pacing, flow, player engagement, and difficulty balancing.
- Passion for the Industry: A profound passion for and extensive knowledge of the games industry, including an awareness of current trends, player preferences, and emerging technologies.

- Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Our core hours are 10 am to 6:00 pm CST, which means you should be available for meetings etc. during this time.

We rely on market indicators to determine compensation and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to get it right. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary and will also be dependent on your location.
Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top-of-market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $60,000 - $270,000.
