The Graduate Assistant Data Analyst is responsible for assisting with data analysis, data warehouse development, and data governance assignments. This includes SQL development and analytics of data from a variety of sources. Performs research and analysis of data warehouse and business intelligence solutions. This also includes documentation of the databases, tables, fields, and BI solutions. A fundamental understanding of relational and dimensional data structures as well as an understanding of databases (e.g. Oracle, SQL) will be expected.
The Graduate Assistant Data Analyst will also have responsibilities for supporting faculty with their data analysis, statistical consulting, and data visualization needs related to their research interests. This includes also supporting faculty who are interested in statistical methodologies, available statistical software, ways to visualize their data results, and other resources as part of their research.
Essential:
30% - Data Analytics:
Create/modify SQL queries from multiple sources for assigned projects.
Identify trends and relationships among data.
Create/modify predictive models, sentiment analysis, and statistical results.
30% - Statistical Consulting and Research:
Provide statistical and data consulting services to faculty researchers. This includes, but is not limited to consulting on statistical methodologies, making recommendations on appropriate software, and providing 1:1 support for research needs of faculty members. The GA will also seek to encourage and support in-depth collaborative research projects, and to increase the quality of quantitative and qualitative research performed at the ISU
20% - Documentation:
Maintain documentation for the data analysis completed.
Assist in translating business requirements to technical specifications.
10% - Research:
Research Business Intelligence tools, processes, and methodologies and provide summary reports as requested.
Marginal:
10% - Perform other duties as assigned
The work environment for this position has the standard computer-related discomforts including eye strain from viewing a computer screen for long periods of time and wrist strain from repetitious hand movements on a keyboard and mouse.
The scope of responsibility and workload of this position can be very stressful.
Weekend or after-hours work may be required to support change management or disaster recovery.
Overnight travel (2-5 days) for training and/or professional development is infrequent but may be required.
$1473 monthly

2. Must be a degree-seeking graduate student at Illinois State University in the following categories.

Math - Applied Statistics

Information Systems - Systems Development (M.S., M.A.)

3. Possess strong interpersonal skills to gather and analyze large amounts of detailed information and summarize for reporting and presentation
4. Demonstrated experience with statistical or data visualization software
5. Possess strong self-motivated analysis and problem-solving disposition with the ability to synthesize findings into communicable actions and recommendations
6. Manage project-related tasks and monitor progress and results
7. Possess an understanding of structured, semi-structured data solutions and familiarity with operational and analytical database concepts.
8. Able to read and write SQL queries.
9. Ability to complete research and clearly document and communicate findings related to data warehousing, reporting, analytics or data governance.
10. Possess experience with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
1. Demonstrated experience with statistical software applications including, but not limited to at least one of the following: SPSS, SAS, Stata, Matlab
2. Demonstrated experience with GIS software
3. Demonstrated experience with data analytics programming in Python, R Studio, or Spark.
4. Demonstrated experience with data reporting tools, such as PowerBI, Tableau, and/or Cognos
5. Demonstrated experience with statistical analysis and understanding of appropriate statistical methodologies
6. Familiarity with data governance concepts.
7. Experience with data analysis, data profiling, and data cleansing.
Any schedule Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
