The Kodiak Island Borough School District has the following Vacancy for the 2023-2024 school year:
Accountant II (Grant Funded)
Position Summary:
This is a mid-level accounting position. An Accountant II works with greater latitude and may have lead responsibility over Accountant I; performs more difficult duties requiring knowledge of accounting, account coding, and the use and purposes of documents to maintain and adjust records. Employees in this position perform standard accounting functions involving the preparation, processing, classification, auditing, reconciliation and maintenance of financial and statistical records and ledgers.
Hours: 8.0 hours per day, 5 days a week, and 10.5 months per year
Salary: Entry Range 16.5, Step 1: $22.31
Qualifications:
1. Familiarity with current office technology such as computers on a network, word processing software
applications, and e-mail systems.
2. Skill in making mathematical calculations, organizing and evaluating data.
3. Ability to interpret and implement procedures.
4. High school graduate or equivalent and prefer 3 years of experience in accounting.
5. Must possess valid State of Alaska driver's license with no insurance restrictions.
6. Ability to work well with public, students, staff and parents.
7. Ability to maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business, materials, and information.
8. Ability to safely, regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50
pounds.
Responsibilities:
1. Review invoices, vouchers, and other accounting documents to determine completeness and accuracy of
computations.
2. Assign or verify account coding.
3. Obtain clarifying or correcting data as required.
4. Prepare billings and request for payment.
5. Maintain central ledgers.
6. Knowledge of School Board policy, various district directives, procedures, guidelines and policies
associated with the district.
7. Verify propriety and completeness of transmittal of receipts.
8. Post necessary financial and statistical data.
9. Deposit moneys.
10. May reconcile bank statements.
11. Prepare periodic reports of accounts status.
12. May act as substitute or backup for Accountant III as necessary.
13. Initiate purchase orders, maintain and account for inventories necessary to the operation of the department or site.
14. Perform computerized inventory work.
15. Assist with computer system operation.
16. Coordinate and work with site managers in menu planning and supply purchases.
17. Prepare and submit required reports to federal and state authorities.
18. Create and maintain forms necessary for activities related to teacher housing, career advancement program, bid preparation and analysis, and budget preparation.
19. Maintain School Lunch Program compliance as prescribed by local, state and federal statutes.
20. Maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business, materials, and information.
21. Other duties as assigned from time to time.
