The Food Safety Quality Assurance & Employee Safety Manager is the on-site safety and regulatory authority at the facility. This position has the primary responsibility of driving the food & Employee Safety systems of the plant by developing, modifying, and maintaining the plant's HACCP, SSOP, Employee Safety program to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements for the production of safe and wholesome meat products.
Manage and keep facility in USDA/FDA and OSHA compliance.
•Conduct daily safety walk throughs of work areas.
•Identify and report unsafe working conditions to management as needed.
•Recommend solutions and ways to prevent potential hazards from happening or reoccurring.
•Stay informed and up to date on new and relevant changes to Food Safety and OSHA regulations by attending conferences, seminars, and/or classes.
Manage and lead the Employee Safety committee team.
•Partner with managers to develop, implement, and manage the Employee Safety team program to include front line workers for safety evaluations.
Manage the USDA plant relations and act as the plant liaison to resolve all USDA issues or concerns.
•Resolve and respond to all USDA Non-Compliance records in a complete and timely manner.
•Appeal any Non-Compliance records that are inaccurate or incomplete.
•Ensure corrective and preventative actions are implemented.Manage and track training in our training system.
•Ensure prerequisite requirements are met under HACCP, SSOP, and Employee Safety programs.
•Audit documentation to ensure compliance.
•Identify training opportunities for staff and recommend improvements for employee development.
Manage Employee Safety & OSHA programs.
•Conduct monthly safety meetings and audits to ensure employees are complying with safety policies.
•Assist Managers and Supervisors with weekly safety topics and assist with training as needed.
•Coordinate annual hearing test & FIT test.
•Conduct accident investigations on accidents & incidents. Ensure post-accident treatment is administered if needed along with post-accident drug screen.
•Communicate with Workers Compensation regarding treatment, status of employee and any restrictions, etc.
•Ensure appropriate training in emergency response, spill response, disaster preparedness, and crisis management; ensure drills and equipment are in a ready state.
•Lead and manage annual 3rd party audits.
•Manage the Alchemy Advantage Program and maintain a relationship with the Food Safety & OSHA consultant.
•Provide quarterly trend reports for employee and food safety to direct manager.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
MANAGERIAL DUTIES
•Manage the day-to-day activities of the Sanitation and QA employees.
•Provide feedback to the Assistant Plant & FSQA Manager related to the performance of direct reports.
•Consistently demonstrate and model good management and self-management practices in support of BEK culture.
Knowledge and Experience - The following are education and experience requirements for the FSQA & Employee Safety Manager.
•Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Animal Science, Quality, Business or related field required.
•Certifications in OSHA, Food Safety, HACCP and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) preferred.3+ years of progressive food processing environment under HACCP, USDA, Good Manufacturing Practices, and/or FDA is a plus.
•Knowledge of OSHA guidelines preferred.
•Knowledge of recalls and traceability procedures.
•Strong computer skills, with experience using Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of food and Employee Safety software is a plus.
•Experience developing & implementing safety programs and policies strongly desired.
