The Opportunity
FRONT DESK REPRESENTATIVE (PART TIME)
As a FRONT DESK REPRESENTATIVE (PART TIME) for Portland Tennis & Education located at 7519 N. Burlington Avenue in St. Johns, you will be the evening “face” of PT&E for all of our visitors, and will be responsible for the first impression we make. You'll be providing excellent customer service, managing court reservations, and assisting with administrative tasks to keep our facility running smoothly. The ideal candidate will have a friendly and outgoing personality while also being very perceptive and disciplined. You should be able to deal with complaints and give accurate information. A customer-oriented approach is essential. The goal is to make everyone who walks through our doors feel comfortable and valued while they are in our facility.
Your Role With Our Nonprofit and Public Tennis Center
- Greet and assist patrons and guests in a friendly and professional manner.
- Answer phone calls, respond to inquiries, and provide information about our facility, programs, and services.
- Manage court reservations and check-in players for their scheduled matches.
- Handle payments and cash transactions accurately and securely.
- Assist with basic administrative tasks and facility cleaning (sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash, loading and emptying the dishwasher, sweeping the courts, etc).
- Help keep our building looking clean and welcoming from the outside (assist with graffiti mitigation, pick up outdoor trash, etc).
- Prep for our After School Program (willingness to obtain a Food Handler’s Card is a plus!)
- Proactively maintain a clean and organized Front Desk area, ensuring that brochures, schedules, and promotional materials are readily available to customers and neatly displayed.
- Collaborate with other staff members to address customer needs and resolve issues promptly.
- Ensure all office supplies at the Front Desk are maintained in good condition and kept organized.
- Maintain a positive, welcoming attitude toward PT&E Staff, public tennis patrons, and various stakeholders, serving as an enthusiastic ambassador for the PT&E program.
- Encourage new participant involvement tennis programs to the general public.
Job Requirements:
- Ability to work afternoon and evening shifts between the hours of 4:00 PM and 10:00 PM is essential. Additional daytime and weekend hours may also be available.
- Ability and willingness to work with patrons, staff, families, and volunteers from diverse cultural, academic, and economic backgrounds.
- Strong customer service skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Punctual, reliable attendance with a strong work ethic.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer proficiency for reservation and payment processing.
- Knowledge of tennis and pickleball is a plus but not required.
As a successful candidate, you may have (not required):
- Customer Service experience.
- Experience working in a nonprofit, academic, and / or youth development setting.
- Spanish language skills, Oregon Food Handlers Card, and CPR Certification are a plus but not required.
The Details
- Primary hours for this role are 4:00 PM - 10:00 PM Monday through Thursday. Additional hours on Friday/Saturday/Sunday may also be available.
- Hours may fluctuate seasonally and will be coordinated in partnership with your manager (Operations and Facility Manager).
- Additional PT&E opportunities may become available based on staffing needs.
- After 30 days of successful employment, Portland Tennis & Education offers group health insurance for hourly staff who work a minimum of 20 hours/week.
