Food Technologist

Position Summary:

This is an entry level position working at the bench to support the product development goals of the company. This position will work to develop new products as well as match customers’ existing products. May also be asked to work toward product improvements.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Basic understanding of chemistry of food products, analytical testing, formulations and processing used in food manufacturing.
• Ability to apply fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions to practical situations such as executing formulations and accurate weighing and mixing.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of project work.
• Improved existing products by optimizing product formulas or attributes(ex: cost, nutritional profiles).
• Execute experiments and prepare results for review.
• Maintain ingredient inventories necessary to formulate or complete projects.
• Prioritize and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills. Be able to present experiment results in a clear and concise way at meetings and for product presentations. Ability to communicate with different organizational levels.
• Operate and maintain lab equipment.
• Write finished product specifications for products that are given final approval. Work with QC Dept. to execute specifications and train personnel.
• Follow start-up product through start-up and several production cycles to ascertain adherence to specifications.
• Lab clean-up, including but not limited to dish washing, product clearing and basic lab sanitation.
• Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices(cGMP’s) and all government mandated safety protocols.
• Conduct stability and shelf life testing.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
• Food Science, Nutrition or equivalent undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience in the baking industry.
• Proficient computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, word processing and spreadsheets.
• Must be detail oriented, organized and be able to manage multiple tasks.
• Must be able to work independently.

Physical Requirements

• Have a good sense of smell and taste.
• Be able to stand on your feet for long periods of time.
• Required to bend and reach, lift and carry, twist, push and/or pull up to 50 lbs.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to wear personal protective gear(PPE) correctly in specified areas.

Work Schedule

• 8 hours Monday – Friday
