Job Description
Food Services Lead Position - Up to $25.24 Per Hour
(COLA increase effective 07/01/2024 - Up to $25.87 Per Hour)
Approx. 25 - 39 hours per week (summer season)
Seasonal employment to work varied hours from May to September

Under general supervision of the Assistant Community Services Director or his/her designee, organizes, oversees, and leads the daily operations pertaining to Food Services at "Splash!" La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center. The Food Services Lead will oversee revenue generated through food service, monitor inventory, train, mentor, and evaluate kitchen staff during the summer months when Buccaneer Bay is operational.

Minimum Qualifications
Must possess excellent customer services skills.
Knowledge of: Food industry standards, safe food handling practices, basic arithmetic, office procedures, Microsoft Excel, Word, point of sale system, cash handling and accounting procedures.
Ability to: Work in a fast pace environment with safe food handling procedures. Make computations rapidly and accurately. Operate a cash register quickly, efficiently, and accurately. Read, understand, and carry out written and oral directions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, community groups, staff, and other agencies. Exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact with staff and the public. Assign tasks when needed. Must be able to lift 50 lbs., and work varied shifts, including nights and weekends.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Graduation from high school or the equivalent is required. Two years of increasing responsibility in a food service application. Customer service, supervision, computer and point of sale experience.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:
Possession of a valid California Driver License is required.
Possession of a valid CPR, AED, and First Aid certificate is required by first day of employment.
Possession of a Food Handler's certification is required by first day of employment. Managers Food Safety certification is required within 60 days of hire. Manager's certification will be provided by the City.
Supplemental Information
Buccaneer Bay water park at Splash! Aquatics Center will be open beginning Saturday, May 18, 2024, through Saturday, September 28, 2024. Training for Food Service staff begins the week of May 7, 2024. Positions require availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Candidates with open availability will be given preference when hiring.

SALARY: Appointments are normally made at the first step of the salary range. Hourly part-time employees are eligible for a step increase after each 1,040 hours worked.
RETIREMENT PLAN: The City contributes towards a retirement plan for all hourly part-time employees through the Nationwide Retirement Solutions Inc. 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan with Social Security Replacement Component. The City contributes 2.5% of the employee's salary as deferred compensation. Additionally, employees contribute 5.0% of salary towards this program on a pre-tax basis. Upon separation with the City, employees may elect to withdraw 100% of both the City and employee's contributions, plus any accrued interest, leave the contribution with Nationwide if the balance is over a certain amount, or roll-over the balance to another eligible retirement account. Hourly employees do not participate in Social Security.
PERSONAL TIME OFF (PTO): Hourly part-time employees earn 1 hour of paid PTO per every 25 hours worked during the calendar year (0.04 PTO hours per 1 hour worked). Hourly part-time employees may accrue up to a maximum of 80 PTO hours. Up to 80 accrued PTO hours may be carried over to the following calendar year.
MEDICAL INSURANCE: The City shall provide a medical insurance program for hourly part-time employees in designated positions with supervisory and/or professional responsibility and who average no less than 25 work hours per week after an 11-month measurement period. Positions eligible for the City medical insurance program shall be designated by the City Manager. The coverage shall be for eligible hourly part-time employees only, with the option at the employee's expense to add dependent coverage. This position is a designated position.
DENTAL INSURANCE: The City provides a dental insurance program for hourly part-time employees in designated positions who are eligible for medical insurance benefits. The coverage shall be for eligible hourly part-time employees only, with the option at the employee's expense to add dependent coverage. This position is a designated position.
VISION INSURANCE: The City provides vision coverage through VSP for hourly part-time employees in designated positions who are eligible for vision insurance benefits. The coverage shall be for eligible part-time employees only, with the option at the employee's expense to add dependent coverage. This position is a designated position.
LIFE and AD&D INSURANCE: Hourly part-time employees in designated positions, who are eligible for medical insurance benefits, will be covered under a $20,000 life and AD&D insurance policy. This position is a designated position.
DISCOUNTS: City employees receive discounts to La Mirada Theatre productions, annual Splash! Aquatics Center passes, City gym memberships, and City recreation classes.
F&A Credit Union: City employees are eligible to join the F&A Federal Credit Union.

- Ensures an excellent guest experience and demonstrates effective customer service skills.
- Plans, develops, conducts, and variety of activities regarding the food service operations of the "Splash!" La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center.
- Completes sales of various goods and group/event packages.
- Assists with marketing and branding of food service goods.
- Trains, supervises, and mentors kitchen staff.
- Ensures food service areas and equipment are well maintained.
- Monitors supply inventory and equipment repairs as need.
- Produces revenue and expense reports pertaining to food service sales.
- Assists with scheduling of part-time food service staff.
- Maintains accurate records; prepares reports and written communication as needed.
- Adheres to City and departmental policies and procedures.
- Perform related duties as required or assigned.
