The Department of Health Services (DHS) , Southern Wisconsin Center (SWC) is currently recruiting to fill two full-time Food Service Assistant 2 positions.
The shifts available are 6am-2:30pm and 9am-5:30pm, both with every other weekend off. An $0.80 per hour weekend differential will be paid for all for all weekend hours worked.

Position Summary
Food Service Assistants are responsible for distributing prepared food from bulk containers to individual portions, cleaning food production equipment, storing food, and assisting with quantity food preparation. These positions also transport food to and from the main kitchen to resident living units.
Salary Information
The starting salary is $16.78per hour and is in pay schedule and range 03/09. These positions are eligible for an additional $0.80 for hours worked between 6 pm to 6 am, and a weekend differential of $0.80 for hours worked between midnight Friday to midnight Sunday. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction.
A $2,000 sign-on bonus applies to those who do not have prior state service in the last five years and must stay with SWC for a minimum of one year to retain the bonus. Bonus will be split, $1,00 at hire and $1,000 after completing probation.
Job Details
- All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
- All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by SWC or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.
- This position has physical requirements which may include but are not limited to lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, sitting, kneeling, stooping, and standing on hard tile floors for extended periods of time. Applicants may be required to pass a physical evaluation to assess these requirements.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
- The ability to work scheduled hours as needed, which may include weekends, holidays, early morning or early evenings, and overtime as needed.
- Experience with basic sanitation, hand washing and safety standards in a Food Service environment.
- The ability to follow written and oral instructions and accept work assignment changes as needed.
- An ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
- Experience with Food Service in an institutional setting.
- Experience with safety and sanitation procedures including recording food temperatures, reducing food waste, and preventing food-borne illness/spoilage.
