Food Program Manager CPM

Location: New York, NY


New York Common Pantry (NYCP) is one of the city’s largest food pantries, providing food assistance, case management services, senior food provision, nutrition education, and hygiene services. We are a dynamic, mission-driven organization, experiencing rapid growth and expansion at this time.


NYCP is a poverty-fighting organization that reduces hunger and promotes dignity, health, and self-sufficiency by using a holistic approach to reach over 65,000 distinct people--nearly 600,000 visitors each year. Last year, we served almost 9.3 million meals. Through an array of programs that we offer, we look to establish long-term stability for those we serve.


The Food Programs Manager is responsible for the supervision of Food Programs Associates, and Safety Associates; assisting the operation of the Choice Pantry and Hot Meal Program and assisting with the supervision of volunteer groups for NY Common Pantry’s Choice Pantry program and Hot Meals program; ensuring proper receipt of all deliveries and maintenance of inventory; maintaining building security, and day to day maintenance of NY Common Pantry’s food-related facilities throughout the building.


The Food Program Manager (CPM) reports to the Director of Food Programs at the 109th St location. The schedule for this position is Tuesday through Saturday. 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This is a Full-Time position, 35 hours per week.


Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the supervision of all food operations for NY Common Pantry’s Choice Pantry program and Hot Meals Program; including ensuring that NY Common Pantry’s pantry distributions run smoothly; order fulfillment of the new choice pantry operate optimally, and meal program services run properly.

  • Supervise Food Programs Associates and Safety Associates.

  • Ensure that pantry packages are properly constructed and provide support as needed including pre-packing of items like produce.

  • Assist the Director of Food Programs with troubleshooting online ordering systems and printing applications.

  • Guarantee that all purchased food and supply deliveries are properly received: review invoices for accuracy before forwarding them to the Director of Food Programs; inspect the quality of all food being delivered and ensure that all items are within acceptable “use by dates” and in acceptable condition; provide guidance and oversight of volunteers assisting with deliveries.

  • Assure that all donated food from all sources is properly inspected and stored.

  • Ensure that proper notification is provided to the Director of Food Programs of all donated food so that food is appropriately incorporated into Food Programs menus for Choice Pantry and Hot Meals programs.

  • Assist in the supervision of all volunteers that work in NY Common Pantry’s Choice Pantry and Hot Meal Program programs including corporate groups, Sponsoring Organizations, schools, Board groups, and individuals.

  • Maintain food and non-food related inventory for the Choice Pantry program and supply inventory reports to the Director of Food Programs.

  • Make sure that all food storage areas are clean and within health codes, including appropriate rotation of food to ensure food freshness.

  • Ensure that trash and recycling are placed outside for collection on designated days and that all cardboard is properly baled and ready to be placed out for recycling collection on designated days.

  • Ensure that food-related areas of both the first and lower levels of the building are cleaned and maintained.

  • Organize the large multi-purpose room to be always ready for program provision, including setting up and taking down tables and chairs for the Dignity meal program and nutrition education classes.


Qualifications:
  • Experience working with mid to large-scale food operations preferred.

  • Certified in food safety handling by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

  • Commitment to helping the communities in need and NYCP’s work and mission.

  • English/Spanish Bilingual preferred.

  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience required.

  • Experience in inventory management preferred.

  • Extremely organized and able to multitask.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suite

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and able to communicate effectively and appropriately with diverse volunteers, employees, and client base.

  • Able to lift heavy boxes of 50lbs or more required.

  • Weekend work is necessary.

Pay: $27.00/hour-$30.00/hour
