Responsibilities
Responsible for the referral management process and prior authorizations needed for patients within assigned FMPP clinical practices. Refers patients to specialists according to clinician orders, insurance guidelines, etc., and obtains authorizations for new and follow up visits and ancillary appointments. Handles call-in requests for authorizations. Serves as a contact for outside physician offices, pharmacies, transportation, and medical facilities. Contacts patients with appointment times and instructions, or if referral cannot be scheduled. Gives patient information on medication or prep needed for tests of ordered referral.
Assists with patient needs between visits. Triages patient phone calls and provides in-basket management support for clinicians. Participates in the Chronic Care Management program as needed. Notifies patients of test results and other follow-ups needed. Manages patient expectations and is able to resolve patient concerns independently. Schedules diagnostic testing and obtains prior authorizations as needed. Assists with traces and regulatory readiness for quality and patient care.
Performs and documents intake of patient in accordance with established protocols. Notifies clinician and acts on priority conditions. Assists clinician with scribing and documentation as needed. Assists patient with discharge instructions and follow-up appointment scheduling. Floats in other clinics as assigned.
Collects lab specimens, administers and documents procedures, treatments, medications and immunizations as ordered. Monitors patient for potential side effects and allergic reactions and reports to clinician. Assists health professionals with exams, procedures, and treatments. Cleans exam table and instruments after use in accordance with Infection Control standards. Assists in maintaining medications/supply stock, emergency supplies, and oxygen supply. Maintains orderly work areas, records, and logs as required.
Contributes to the efficient operation of the clinic by performing other related duties as may be required. Promotes an atmosphere of teamwork in accomplishing the mission and goals of FSU COM Clinical Endeavors. Exhibits a willingness to float to all areas of need within the scope of practice. Maintains confidentiality of all personal health information. Assures that information is maintained, handled, and released in accordance with applicable federal and state statutes and FSU COM clinical policies.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes, or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Section 210, Florida Administrative Code.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Certification issued by a certifying agency, or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
- Experience with applicable computer software and programs, such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Electronic Health Records, or comparable programs.
- Experience demonstrating effective customer services skills.
- Experience communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
- Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Experience utilizing problem solving skills.
- Experience maintaining accurate records and retrieving files from active/archive sources.
- Knowledge of medical resources and terminology.
- Documentation of current PPD (Purified Protein Derivative) test as performed by a qualified physician reporting negative results within the past six months.
Documentation of physical examination completed by a qualified healthcare provider/physician within the past six months.
- Documentation of Tetanus immunization within 10 years.
Documentation of Hepatitis B vaccine or positive antibody titer.
