Job Description
Daily Responsibilities of a Float MOHS Medical Assistant / MA:
- Provide care according to physician’s instruction
- Perform initial assessment and evaluation of patient and patient health survey data. Provide pre-operative and post-operative teaching for both patient and family members.
- Provide assistance during surgery or other procedures as indicated.
- Set up patient for surgery including prepping area, draping with sterile drapes, setting up clean tray with anesthesia and preparing instruments.
- Scrub in as assistant to surgeon. Hand instruments and cut suture, keep operative area clean and organized. Administer anesthesia as directed by physician.
- Prepare equipment and paperwork for surgery
- Maintain appropriate records and documentation.
- Prepare a permanent EMR note for each Mohs case with follow up phone call documented in Electronic Medical Record.
- Clean and dress surgical defects according to procedure guidelines as ordered.
- Provide appropriate written instructions regarding care and potential problems.
- Operate autoclave.
Requirements for a Float MOHS Medical Assistant / MA:
- At least 1 year of experience of MOHS experience – willing to take new grads or those on a “gap year” that will be returning to nursing school or med school within one year.
- 2 years of dermatology specific experience or those who have wound care or surgical tech experience
- Experience with vitals, rooming patients, triaging for patient medical history, chart prep
- EMR experience
- Sterile Procedure/Infection control
- Well-spoken/well written with a good personality
Hours for this Position:
- Monday and Tuesday in Newburyport, MA and Wed and Thursday in Beverly, NH. 7AM -3:30PM/4PM
