Metro is seeking a Fleet Manager that is responsible for the care and maintenance of all transit coaches and non-revenue vehicles, within the Bond Hill and/or Queensgate Garage, to ensure our customers a clean, reliable, and dependable service in a cost effective manger. This position is also responsible to audit and indicate changes and/or upgrades to ensure Metro quality standards are met.
Job Duties
- Enforce safety and security regulations, as well as, compliance to Metro's policies and procedures.
- Adhere to proper preventive maintenance schedules and practices for all vehicles and equipment.
- Responsible for insuring proper servicing of vehicles including proper fueling, fluid levels, reporting of mechanical defects – including tire problems, reporting of body damage and any other related maintenance issues which could affect the roadworthiness and image of the fleet.
- Responsible for the overall cleanliness and presentation of the fleet to the public.This includes the bus interior, exterior, wheels, tires windows, driver’s area, seating, floors or any other item that affects Metro’s image.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Supervisors and personnel to insure that buses are parked properly for pullouts.
- Responsible for fostering good Labor and Management relations and consistent application of the collective bargaining agreement and Maintenance Employee Handbook.
- Inspect or test materials, stock, vehicles, equipment, and facilities to ensure that they are safe, free of defects and meet specifications.
- Determine necessary levels of manpower and assist in the selection process of new hires.
- Schedule work, assign responsibilities, provide daily oversight to direct reports.
- Develop and update performance objectives and budgets. Track budget and report on any variances.
- Responsible for maintaining all fleet maintenance records, reviewing them for accuracy and completion, and archiving them to meet our internal and FTA records retention requirements.

- Evaluate and improve work practices, work flow, and equipment.
- Provide and/or input information to the maintenance management system.
- Prepare weekly and monthly performance reports, and if necessary develop routine and special reports.
- Monitor and control inventory to efficiently meet area needs. Operate within Budget.
- Facilitate the development of strategies to meet or exceed organizational and department performance goals and objectives, monitor results, and recognize employee, department and organization accomplishments.
- Oversee the continued development of all maintenance employees to keep them abreast of new technologies; oversee and direct the development of Maintenance Management employees’ skills and understanding of procedures and policies, developing, implementing, monitoring and overseeing adherence to performance standards.
- Model, facilitate and encourage exemplary internal and external customer service, open communication, collaboration, participation and professional development among staff.

- Associate's Degree (two year college or technical school) or equivalent preferred.
- Three or more years’ experience in Metro Maintenance area preferred.
- Prefer five years supervisory experience.

- Working knowledge of procurement/inventory system, payroll and timekeeping applications, internet, email, and applications for word processing and spreadsheets.
- Working knowledge of coach technology, coach maintenance, diesel technical training, and maintenance management system.
- Excellent communication skills.
