Position Description
Fleet Manager General Summary:
Commissioner Precinct 2 is actively seeking an experienced professional who is passionate about innovation and progress to join our team as the Fleet Director. Reporting to the Executive Director of Support Services, the Fleet Manager will oversee, optimize, and maintain the health of our fleet operations. With a diverse range of vehicles and equipment, you will be instrumental in driving efficiency, enhancing the customer experience, and implementing Smart Fleet strategies. Your role will also involve improving planning processes. We are looking for a leader with exceptional managerial skills, a strong proficiency in fleet-based reporting software, and technical expertise to lead our dynamic team of professionals.
As the Fleet Manager, you will oversee all aspects of our fleet operations. Your ability to collaborate across multiple departments and deliver comprehensive solutions while maintaining an effective customer experience is crucial. You will also champion the department's core values, vision, and mission statement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership in both strategic and tactical aspects of fleet operations through Fleetio.
- Oversee maintenance, repairs, and up-fitting of county-owned vehicles, ensuring efficient service turnaround time.
- Develop and maintain departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to speed, cost, and quality, aiming for an exceptional customer experience.
- Support multiple departments and equipment types to provide detailed cost and performance analyses for a holistic fleet solution.
- Collaborate with managers and the Purchasing Department on requests for proposals, term purchasing bids, and contracts related to parts, vehicle purchasing, fuel, vehicle repair vendors, and vehicle vendors.
- Ensure accurate documentation of work performed by fleet employees and external contractors for accountability, billing, and reporting purposes.
- Develop and oversee the implementation of the electric vehicle strategy for Precinct 2.
- Coordinate with the Purchasing and Inventory Department for the proper disposal of vehicles at the end of their life cycle, considering total cost of ownership.

Requirements
Education:
- Associates Degree from an accredited college or university
- Comparable experience in an equivalent management field may substitute for required education
Experience:
- Two (2) years of Inventory Control, Asset Management, Financial Management, or management experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated expertise in fleet management practices.
- Must have profound understanding of the vehicle repair and parts supply industry.
- Must command of the unique vernacular and events specific to Harris County and Fleet Services.
- Ability to craft clear and impactful written and verbal communications.
- Strong interpersonal skills, both written and oral, enabling effective collaboration with staff at all levels.
- Must have solid knowledge of personal computers and software applications, including Fleetio and Microsoft Office.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- This job operates occasionally in a clerical, office setting. May be exposed to dust, dirt, fumes, etc.
- May be asked to work outdoors in elements such as hot, cold, and rain.
- May be asked to work at different shop locations based on Fleet Workload
- Subject to occasional kneeling, crouching, handling, climbing, walking, sitting, twisting, and reaching as needed to perform the essential functions. This would require the ability to lift files of up to 50 lbs, open filling cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
