Job Details: GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Senior Safety Manager provides the tools and skills necessary to implement the Fleet Safety processes for all Private Fleet employees. Aligning with Fleet Directors and Human Resources in compliance of DOT, OSHA, EPA regulations and Dollar General company policies. Leads Safety Managers on achieving department goals.
DUTIES and ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Support the Fleet Network’s terminal and operational leadership in their efforts to develop and achieve safety objectives around FMCSA requirements for equipment and Drivers. 20%
- Partner with Fleet Training, Safety, and Operations Management to develop & implement standard operating procedures, safety regulations and other related written guidelines. 20%
- Champions adherence of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and identifies process improvements around areas of safety, training, and compliance. 20%
- Promotes a culture of safety by evaluating the safety performance of all employees and ensuring proper safety measures are in place, addressing any concerns in a timely manner. 10%
- Benchmarks with industry peers and explores emerging technology to support continuous process improvement and establish best practices in creating a safe and healthy work environment. 10%
- Redesigns and monitors the manager development process by providing a selection of mentors, creating program standards, and monitoring employee development progress. 10%
- Trains Managers in employee evaluation and leadership development of their direct reports. 10%
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:
- Ability to evaluate hazards to safety and collaborate with others to minimize or eliminate risk.
- Working knowledge of Federal, State and Company regulations and policies as related to compliance and safety.
- Understanding of performance development, team development, and leadership development
- processes; demonstrated developmental approach to leadership.
- Ability to evaluate supervisory and management employees for leadership potential.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to use personal computer for tracking and updating safety and training programs.
WORK EXPERIENCE and/or EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or Logistics preferred with a minimum of 6 years relevant work experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 6+ years of Transportation Industry Safety experience required
- Experience in managing and leading others required

- Must be willing to travel at least 50% of the time
