Job description

The Fleet Equipment Manager holds a pivotal role in steering the performance, compliance, efficiency, and safety of our diverse fleet operations. Tasked with upholding the integrity of our equipment pool and managing the lifecycle of assets throughout the Cornerstone Building Brands network, this role is central to strategic decisions regarding equipment procurement and capital investments.

As a key figure within the organization, this role demands effective collaboration across all business units, requiring the ability to build consensus and foster support for strategic initiatives among senior and operational leadership teams, as well as at individual facility levels.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance and management programs for all transportation equipment, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and compliance with all regulations
  • Establishes and maintains all assigned equipment to specific use and runs (i.e. line vs. city use, long vs. short mileage line runs), so that the life cycles can be maximized
  • Maintains life cycle records on all company equipment, including but not limited to all tractors, trailers and trucks
  • Expertise in assessing operational requirements and specifying vehicles and equipment that best meet those needs, including considerations for payload, route characteristics, fuel efficiency, and environmental impact
  • Ensures that underutilized equipment is redistributed to the network when business levels change for various reasons
  • Lead procurement processes for new equipment and manage vendor relationships, including negotiations and contract management
  • Manage the implementation and utilization of fleet technology systems, driving improvements in operational efficiency and data-driven decision-making
  • Monitor and report on fleet performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies to achieve operational excellence
  • Drive sustainability initiatives within the fleet, focusing on fuel efficiency, emissions reduction, and environmental compliance
  • Act as the primary liaison for equipment-related communications with internal stakeholders and external partners
  • Responsibility and oversight for equipment Registration, titling, TAX, IFTA, HUT, IRP
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field required
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in Fleet Equipment management within a large, complex transportation operation
  • Proven track record of managing a multi-site fleet, including maintenance programs, compliance, and safety initiatives
  • Experience upholding the integrity of the equipment pool and managing the lifecycle of assets as well as making strategic decisions regarding equipment procurement and capital investments
  • Strong understanding of transportation regulations and safety standards at the federal, state, and local levels
  • Experience in negotiating and managing contracts with vendors and service providers
  • Proficiency in fleet management software and technology systems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams across multiple locations
  • Excellent financial acumen, with experience managing large budgets, implementing cost control measures and calculating TCO
  • Commitment to sustainability and experience in implementing green transportation initiatives
  • Proficiency in time and project management
  • Organizational skills – the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Etc.)
  • Exceptional communications skills, both verbally and written
  • Data driven strategist mindset
  • An ambition to grow and strengthen skills and knowledge
  • Proven success at evaluating risks and opportunities to make the best decisions in achieving company goals
  • Experience working in a remote environment with the ability to meet expectations, collaborate and engage effectively with internal and external teams
  • Up to 50% travel

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $107,000 to $117,000 + 10% Annual Bonus + medical, dental, vision benefits starting day 1 + 401k and PTO. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process. (Full-time is defined as regularly working 30+ hours per week.)
