Position Description
Provide professional services and support to accomplish a range of resource management activities for NOAA's Southeast Regional Office's (SERO) Sustainable Fisheries Division's (SFD) Gulf of Mexico Branch. Activities include the development of Fishery Management documents, conducting outreach activities, facilitating communications, and presenting on identified Fishery Management issues.
Required Skills
2+ years of experience leading to the following knowledge, experience and abilities:
- Experience reviewing Fishery Management Plans (FMPs) and amendments for compliance with the Magnuson-Stevens Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and other applicable laws.
- Ability to produce high quality technical and scientific writing assignments that require minimal review and edits.
- Experience formulating and recommending management policies and practices for conserving marine fisheries resources.
- Experience giving oral presentations to large scientific and non-scientific audiences.
- Ability to write and review technical and scientific sections of Fishery Management plan amendments and framework actions and follow detailed established protocols.
- Experience reviewing scientific studies, Fishery Management plans, stock assessments, and grant applications.
- Ability to develop FMP approval/rulemaking packages and lead rulemaking teams (writers, economists, attorneys) to complete tasks and assignments.
Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility.
Education
BS in Marine Biology, Marine Policy, related discipline, or equivalent.
Work Location
This position is fully remote; however, local travel in the Southeast region of the US is required. Candidates should reside in the Southeast region or be willing to relocate. Intermittent attendance in the local office will also be required.
