Job Description
Under the direction of the Fire Chief this position of Firefighter is responsible for the safe and acceptable performance of all firefighting functions, emergency medical first aid, assist and participate in all firefighting, lifesaving and security activities at the airport and its facilities, and to do related work as required. The Firefighter, as a crew member, will follow the leadership of the department in all the orders and written policies and procedures and all other written orders.
Essential Functions
- The Firefighter maintains a high standard of safety and work performance in the execution of their duties. This will include maintaining safe work practices and compliance with company, airport and governmental agency policies, rules, standards, and regulations, communicating any deficiencies and recommendations for correction to the Fire Chief.
- Working in Alarm Room answering emergency and routine daily calls, monitoring Fire Alarm Systems, alerting crews when emergency calls are received, dispatching crews and equipment to emergency and non-emergency calls.
- Complete all assigned daily duties as directed by the Fire Chief.
- Driver Operator of ARFF apparatus as a Firefighter.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively to individuals and groups using good oral, written, and listening skills.
- Ability to carry out oral and written directions.
- Ability to prepare reports on the handling of routine or emergency duties.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in determining the appropriate action to be taken relating to job responsibilities.
- Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties, to include all airport co-employees.
- Must demonstrate good character appropriate to the requirements of the job.
- Must present an appearance consistent with other employee appearance standards or as determined by the Airport Director.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Fire Chief, as the scope of the client services requires or broadens.
Education, Qualifications, and Experience Necessary
- Valid state driver's license throughout the employee's term of employment.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Must successfully complete a criminal background investigation and an employment history that meets the requirements of 49 CFR 1542.209.
- Minimum Firefighter Level II Certification from an accredited agency. Must have National Registry EMS certification to the EMT-Basic. Prefer Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting certification and/or experience.
- Must be able to speak and understand English (verbal and written).
