Job description

What's in it for you?

At Howe, we make sure to set up every team member for success in their career. From tools, licensing and certifications, to continuing education opportunities, we provide all the expected benefits with the addition of one thing - GROWTH, plain and simple. "Howe" would you like the opportunity to grow with a 4th generation family-owned company that is truly leading the way in the industry? If you're not familiar with the benefits that are being offered, here's what to expect from us:

  • Culture centered on our core values: Integrity, Quality, Service, Teamwork.
  • On-the-job training and opportunities for continuing education.
  • Well-maintained fleet of vehicles and access to leading technology and equipment.
    • Up to $3,000 in tool programs + boot discounts.
  • Comprehensive benefits package with HSA and supplemental insurance options.
  • 401k with generous match.
  • PTO accrual starting on day one.

Compensation & Incentives:

  • $20.00-$25.00 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.
  • $500 Apprentice Hand-Tool Kit on Day 1.
  • Up to $2,500 worth of cordless power tools in 1st year.
  • $200 annual tool allowance program.
  • Discount on work boots.

How you'll contribute to the team:

As a Fire Protection Apprentice, you will be enrolled in and participate in Howe's state-registered apprenticeship program, T.E.K. (Technology, Experience, and Knowledge). Under the direction of the Foreman, you will be responsible for preparing, fabricating, and installing fire sprinkler systems in compliance with codes. This includes cutting and transporting pipes, fittings, and equipment, conducting pressure tests, sizing systems, installing valves and flow switches, and interpreting blueprints. You will also participate in a monthly Howe-facilitated classroom training where will learn how to read and understand blueprints, troubleshoot and resolve issues, and carry out additional assignments as directed. Additionally, apprentices will learn the importance of maintaining their tools, repairing equipment, and keeping their work areas neat, clean, and free of debris.

What you'll bring to the table:

To be successful in Howe's T.E.K. apprenticeship, you'll need to be mechanically inclined and able to follow directions closely. Good communication skills are key, as well as the ability to work unsupervised, and maintain a professional appearance always. Apprentices are also expected to drive to and from job sites as necessary, therefore a valid driver's license is required.

How you'll qualify:

Howe's T.E.K. apprenticeship provides all the on-the-job and classroom training necessary to qualify you to become a Fire Protection Journeyman. No prior construction experience is required, but it is preferred. Apprentices must also demonstrate basic skills and knowledge of the trade, as well as a good understanding of materials and tools used in the industry. At a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent is required.

What to expect in the field:

Working in the Fire Protection industry can be physically demanding. As a Fire Protection Apprentice, you must have the physical strength to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50lbs, and have the balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas. Apprentices must also be able to work at height, on ladders or lifts, and in all weather conditions for prolonged periods of time.

Howe, Inc. is an EEO/AAP employer.
